Bridesmaid dress...

The problem with my figure and bridesmaid dresses is that most dresses, even if they are very cute like the one my best friend picked out, are going to be a little too "whoa" with the cleavage.

The bridesmaid dress for my BFFs wedding arrived in the mail today so I emailed her to let her know. She had asked for photos so I thought I'd share them with you. Not sure if I am going to order a bigger size and get the rest tailored, or if I need a different bra... But I think this is a little much for a wedding, especially since the other bridesmaids look perfectly normal in the dress.

Re: Bridesmaid dress...

  • Is that from JCrew?  If so I have the same problem with the same dress.  I bought an ill fitting bra for it and it worked OK but I didn't really look good.  If I had to do it again I'd go with the bigger size and have the bottom taken in.

  • It is! The Sophia dress? I think I'll probably send it back for the bigger size. Who knows how much that will help. Might just make the rest of the dress look wonky.

  • I kinda think you look, vavavoom!  Then again, after living in London, I now appreciate boobage a lot more (wear tops that show more cleavage than I did in the US by far).  If it's comfortable, I'd probably just go with it and love your cleavage.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • embrace the cleavage!
  • I'd kill to have cans like that. Embrace it!
  • Embrace the cleavage, you look great!

     Agreed! You look hawt!

  • Actually, TBH, the way that dress is cut I don't think going a size up is going to do away with the cleavage.  The top photo of you looks like the dress fits how it's supposed to.  I'm just super uncomfortable showing off any of my boobs so I was uncomfortable in the dress--hence the ill-fitting bra.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • I agree with the PPs that you look pretty hot! It's hard to make out the seams, since the dress is black, but it looks like the waistline is at natural waist? If so, honestly it looks like the dress is designed to be cut low, so if the bride chose it, I guess she's  okay with having hotalicious BMs!(Although looking at the JCrew site, it looks like their model is a AA-cup! I hate it when they do that! I know it's not in their best interest, but sometimes I wish they'd show clothes on multiple body types.)

  • I think you can pull it off :-)

I tend to have this happen to me all the time so I'm always wearing shirts underneat v-neck shirts. what about getting a tailor to add a little bit of fabric to it? Or pulling it up on the straps?

I agree. I think it looks just fine but if you will be uncomfortable, you could have a sheer panel sewn on to cover some of the cleavage without being overly prudish. I think it looks pretty hot, but go with what you will be most comfortable with

  • I'm the same as Pitt. I have a problem with a lot of shirts, so I tend to wear tanks underneath to hide the cleavage.

You look great, btw! If you'll feel self concious, you could try a minimizer bra. Maybe something with this style, so the bra won't show under the dress?

  • You look great in that dress!

What did the bride say about the photos?

  • Lol, I love you guys.

The bride thought it looked good, so I guess she doesn't mind! The thing about the cut is that the neckline is overlapping. So my boobs are actually pulling the dress apart. The neckline line on the other girls is probably a good two or three inches higher. But if the bride doesn't mind, than I don't really object. They are her wedding photos!

I know this is stupid, but because the wedding is a year away and I'm still working on losing weight, I'm going to keep this size. The dress is getting discontinued, so I'm screwed if I gain any weight (I wish we weren't getting dresses this early!). I'm also getting new bras soon at a nice bra fitting place, so I'm going to bring the dress and ask them what would look good under it.

  • I hear you on the overlapping neckline thing! I hate them because they always gape open on me.  Maybe you could get the overlap stitched together to keep it from gapping?

this is an excellent idea. And I also think you look hot :)
  • One more vote for going with the hot cleavage, especially if the bride is okay with it.

If you don't feel comfortable, then you can look into stitching the overlap together (or maybe try just using fabric tape?).

If your budget can handle it, maybe order one size up and keep the dress you already have for now, then compare the two and see which one you like the best.  Then send the other one back.

If you're like me, the first place you'll lose weight is in your boobs.  So maybe this problem will take care of itself.
