Good Morning!

What's on the agenda today?

QOTD: IHO Snowy Owl's post, what is the worst bridesmaids dress you've ever been forced to wear?

Re: Good Morning!

  • I just finished a 2 k swim (pretty proud of myself for that one).  Now I need to shower and head out to see someone from H's work about a car.  I'll be driving on the right for the first time ever today.  Hopefully I don't crash the car before we actually get around to buying it.

QOTD:  It was a purplish maroon color for my cousin's wedding.  This family was really fundamentalist Christian at the time, so it had t-shirt sleeves, a "scoop neck" that barely showed my collarbone, shoulder pads, and had floor length pleats starting just below the natural waist.  I wish I still had it as it was a sight to behold.

  • Seeing a couple apartments, I'm so hoping one of them is the "one"!

QotD: This will actually be my first time as a bridesmaid so this is the only dress so far, I imagine I'm getting off pretty light!

  • Good Morning.  DH is working late tonight, so I am relaxing the day away.  Though I planned menus for next week -- I am thinking I am going to make sweet potato pie for dessert.  Either that or a big tub of frosting to eat by the spoonful.  ;)

QOTD:  I've only ever been in two weddings, so it's down to:  either the strapless David's Bridal dress that made me feel like a big black beached whale or the bright orange, yellow & gold mermaid dress designed to make the girls look like the goldfish in the bowls on the tables.  Both were terrible.  I was not shaped for either one.  I left the goldfish one with the bride -- she bought it and I was certainly never going to wear it again.  The black one was decent, but not my style so I donated it to a prom dress charity.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)
    Anniversary
  • My main agenda for today is to stop feeling nauseous.  If I could manage that after 5 days of feeling queazy and not being able to eat without pain, I'd be happy.

QOTD:  I actually haven't had to wear any particularly heinous dresses, but for my oldest sister's wedding the smallest size the dress came in was a 4 and I was like a 00 at the time.  The dresses came in and my other sister stole my size 4 because her size 6 was swimming on her so they had to reconstruct a size 6 to fit me and it just looked sloppy.  The darts at the bust were in wrong place and it was just unflattering.

  • Not much on the agenda that's all that exciting.  Just more time with the inlaws.  We put boarding over the broken glass, have a door/window person coming on tomorrow and the alarm people coming next week.  We're hoping that the more time we spend with the inlaws, the less likely they are to have a break-in again...who'd want to mess with the dog?  Or me?

QOTD: my sister-in-law recently apologized for her choice of bridesmaid dress.  I don't have a pic cause I looked like cr*p.  It was pale lavender and was not made for anyone with ANY curve...basically straight up and down - sorta tube like.  And by the time I could order one, they only had sizes below mine, so I had to squeeze into it.  I have never looked so bad in a dress.

I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • Hi all!  No big plans today, just spending more QT with H before he leaves for the US Monday morning.

QOTD:  I've been a MOH twice, once for my dad's wedding and once for my mom's.  For both I was the only member of the bridal party and they let me pick my dress, so nothing horrible here!  I'm the first of my close friends to have gotten married so there may be bad ones in the future...

    Now jumping domestically.

  • Work and the gym, which is fine by me!!!  I need a low key day and nearly all of my office is out on holiday.  Hopefully it will be nice and quiet.

QOTD:  Nothing super ugly, but one that didn't fit.  SIL went with a new company that was order only, no physical stores as it was cheap, cheap.  Fine, I called and gave them my measurements and they said get a size 0 or 2.  I can't remember now, but I said okay and I can just wore that size from David's Bridal and had to have it taken in.  I thought it would be fine.  We land for the wedding and I try the dress on OMG.  I could barely zip it.  I had to have the inseams taken out.  Let's just say, I made it work, but nothing was left to the imagination.

  • The usual for me today. I worked out this morning...I did an hour long spinning podcast on my bike trainer, then a body-weight pyramid. Now I'm getting ready to start work for the day.

QOTD: I haven't ever had to wear a bad one. I have really lucked out. My SIL would have picked one that looked really skanky on me if I hadn't gone to try it on. I am a good 6" taller than her other bridesmaids and it looked really cute on them but barely covered my butt.

  • Good evening!  I had antenatal group catch up today and we decided to have a buggy walk around the waterfront, and we spotted Orlando Bloom.  It was a fun celebrity sighting, especially since we were in the eastern suburbs of Wellington!  Tomorrow I have another mums 'n bubs group.  Busy, busy these babies are.

    QOTD: never been a bridesmaid.

  • Morning!  Work here, and I'm exhausted, so it's going to be a LONG day.

QOTD:  Honestly, I feel like Katherine Heigel in "27 Dresses"...I've been a BM in 8 different weddings, and at one point, I considered making a quilt from all the different dresses, because I had nothing else to do with them.

Most of them were actually pretty good...my SIL picked a super pale blue that made me look hella washed out, but overall not bad.  The one I disliked the most (and felt uncomfortable in) was a HOT PINK taffeta number (2 piece) from David's Bridal, for a Florida beach wedding.  We got to pick our tops, but the bride wanted us in the same skirt.  No big deal, except it was a TRUMPET skirt.  For those of you who have met me...you know that "curvy" is my middle name and I have some serious junk in my trunk.  But, I love the bride, and it was only one day, plus she loved the overall look.  And now, I leave you with a picture.

  • I need to do some cleaning today.  I'm really not feeling it, though.

QOTD: I've only been in a wedding once.  I was MOH and picked my own dress.

  • Nothing new planned for today.  Work, dinner, gym.  I've had a weird ear infection the last couple of days, so I'm just taking it easy and waiting for the weekend to arrive.

QOTD:  I haven't had anything really bad.  One girl made us do floor length dresses, which I was not a fan of, but it wasn't that bad.  Except that I went to a tailor to get the top taken in and she went overboard!  I could barely move in the top and had to sit really straight all night.

  • Morning!

My dog is being put under for a biopsy this morning, so I will be worrying about him most of the day while clients push me for stuff.

QOTD: only ever been a bridesmaid once for my sister. She phoned the dressmaker and told her my measurements had to be taken in (she doesn't know that the dressmaker emailed me to check) and rather than correct her, I lost even more weight so that it would fit. She didn't let me even see the dress (which was nice) until the night before - I think she was hoping that it wouldn't fit and so she wouldn't have to have me as her BM. It was pretty tight, but it fit (just). Joke was on her, I looked even skinnier than I already did. Ha!

  • Morning, today i get to pick a friend up from the trsin station who is staying for a few days, yayy!! I've just had my hair cut so i look super hot ;) QOTD: i had to wear a long soagetti strap number from DB it wasnt bad BUT it was banana (think the inside) and i got fitted for it before camp, i got a size 4 that was almost too small and on the day we had to do some pinning as it was hanging off of me!!! Oh and pair that with a life guard tan line :)

  • Morning! My DD slept 8 hours straight for the first time in months so I'm feeling really good! We're getting coffee with some friends this morning and I need to run a few errands as well. We had some friends over for dinner, and with no dishwasher I have a lot to clean up. I've only been in one wedding, and the dress wasn't that bad. It was a strapless, knee length brown dress with a cream sash. The worst part was the weddin was in Wisconsin in January and we took some pictures outside in the cold. I think it was 7 degrees F.

  • Morning!

QOTD: I only did it once, the dress was perfectly fine except it was way too tight in the bust so I had to get it reconstructed to fit, which made the dress look quite a bit different to the other bridesmaids: straps had to be changed & the overlay had to be cut open and ties added.

It made me feel quite a bit insecure as I thought it would look like it had to be widened to accomodate my fat ass (other 3 bridesmaids were pretty much skin & bones) but it turned out looking better (on me) than the original version and showing off the cleavage I was the only one to have... It just made me very self conscious that everyone was commenting on how different it looked. (Bride was perfectly happy with it but am pretty sure snark was involved from female guests commenting).

  • Good morning.  Went out for drinks and dinner last night with a group of friends and had a good time.  But I'm just so tired today.  I really have to start getting more sleep during the week.  Nothing going on today, though, so should have some time to relax this evening.

QOTD: I've only been in one wedding.  We got to pick out the material and the dress pattern, and then have them made, so it was pretty much in our own control.

  • Good morning ladies.  Nothing much happening today.  As long as baby stays in I am going to take my bil into town this afternoon so he can get his hair cut...and so I can indulge in a frappuccino lol.

QOTD: I've only been a bridesmaid once and I liked the dress so I got nothing lol

Aw, what's going on with the pup?  I can relate, I'm always a bit anxious when we are waiting on doggy vet results -- I'm going to be a nervous wreck as a mother when baby gets sick!

Morning all...I just woke up and it is 12.  This is not okay.  I stayed up until almost 4am last night watching tv.  I really have to make myself go to sleep at a normal time and get on a schedule.   Today I'm going to start gathering the information I need to apply for Spanish nationality.  Yay for paperwork!

QOTD:  Never been a bridesmaid although I was asked to be in a friend's wedding this past summer and I couldn't make it.  I saw the BM dresses and they were beautiful though!  I'm guessing when my sister gets married I'll be a BM and she has great taste so I'm not worried.

Hey let me know what you need for the nationality. I have been putting it off for years. I know you need a few documents from the States and they need the Hague Stamp, and they have to be translated but from what I gather when I went to the Registro Civil is that when you present everything the documents have an expiration date of three months.

  • No big plans.  I am finally feeling human again and need to clean this mess of a house, run some errands and go grocery shopping.

DH took great care of me while I was sick, but for some reason the man can't multi-task and take care of the household or cook for himself at the same time.  He told me yesterday he needs a second wife when I'm sick.  I tend to agree. That would make recovery so much easier.

QOTD: My would have to be the handmade, middle of the knee-length, shiny electric blue dress for my cousin's wedding.  It had huge puff sleeves, a scoop neck and we wore matching dyed heels.  Classic.  This was back in the late 90s though and the first time I was in a wedding.

We don't know - he's been on steroids and anti-biotics, nothings working. I'm a wreck.

  • Morning!

H left back for France yesterday. We'll join him in 2 weeks.

I am taking a driving lesson today for manual. H will be picking up our new car from the dealer today.

QOTD: I've only been in one wedding. The BM dress was nice for that wedding, but I'll never wear it again. I'm kind of bitter about having spend so much on a dress that I can only wear once!

  • I know that you have to go to the Registro Civil in Madrid. I think the most difficult document to get is the police document of buena conducta. I am going to work on getting the documents the next time I am in the States.

  • Good morning! Still in hard-core study mode (T minus 5 days, eek!), but enjoying my time stateside so far. Going downtown to eat lunch with my dad today, so fun to be able to do that! And take doggie play breaks while studying. Good for the soul. Although I just went to go play with him and he just wanted to be pet, lol :-)

QOTD: I've only been in one wedding, my cousin's, when I was 15. The dress was nice, I had no complaints.

  • Good morning! (Just about lol) I'm writing out 32 invitations for our annual end of summer birthday bash. We have 4 birthdays over the course of 3 days!!

QOTD: For my brother and SIL's wedding I had bizarre pale green dress that went all the way up to the neck and had two straps that went down the back from a collar. It wasn't particularly flattering but at least it wasn't poofy!

Once upon a time, boy met girl...
