Any suggestions on what we should do and stay?
Re: Denver get-away help.
I heart denver! So jealous. We always stay at the marriott residence in right in downtown. I think it's on 17th and champa. Great breakfast and if you book through their site you can usually get your parking included which saves $$. Also, if you go during the week m-th, they have a happy hour, it's more like a full course meal all free. What we have done is tour the football stadium (reservations must be made in advance). I think you can tour the baseball stadium. Shopping. UMMM, my favorite....beer tasting. Some of the off the beat places to try would be Pint's Pub. Great little english bar. Highly recommend Jack N Grill. It was on Man vs food. You can tour the Mint, the capital, etc. There is an aquarium but I have not been to that. Definitely do a tour of Stranahans. Colorado whiskey. Samples on the tour. Google them for details on tours. The the smell of the room with all the barrels is divine (even when I was preggo I wanted a sample but had to pass). I will keep thinking of more stuff but that should get you started.
Outside of denver you have lots of options of course but my all time favorites are Fort Collins, great food, beer, downtown stuff, beautiful campus/flower garden. Chick-Fila, etc. And Estes park for the scenery, Stanley hotel (you can take a ghost tour--see website for details). The brewery in estes is ok but they have good pumpkin beer in the fall.Wow...thanks E!
Last time we went, we stayed at Adam's Mark (Sheraton now, I think.). We went through Hotwire.com and got a GREAT deal. We wanted to take the kids to Mt. Rushmore, but some guys in the traffic office alerted Pat that it wouldn't be a great time to go due to Sturgis. We are going to our cabin at Lake McConaughy, so Denver is not more than 3 hours away. We will go to a Rockies game and to Water World in Thornton. We are not staying there long. We've got more playing to do at the lake.
Thanks for the hotel rec. We really did want something with breakfast. Feeding four kids gets expensive....especially that 12-yr-old boy of ours!
