Lets talk birth control

I went to the dr today to discuss options for birth control. I am thinking that I would like to get the Mirena but am unsure. I am currently reading the pamphlet and am concerned about pregnancy after having it removed. I am currently dating someone and do not want to get pregnant anytime soon, which is the reason I am looking into BC. But I would like to be able to get pregnant after having it removed if we continue the path we are on. Please ladies who have or are currently using the IUD. give me some advice!!!!

  • I got Mirena in August of 2009 when E was 7 weeks old.  I loved it!  Insertion was semi-painful but quick.  I never had a period, only spotted once a month for a couple days.

I had it removed in April of this year and had a pretty nasty first period.  It was super heavy and lasted nine days.  Ugh.  I got pregnant my second cycle though.

I highly recommend Mirena and will get it again after this baby.

  • I have a Mirena and I love it! I definitely recommend it, and everyone I know who has one would tell you the same thing.  My insertion was more than "semi-painful," (I am telling you this because I was told it hurts just "a tad" and so I wasn't prepared.)  but I will do it again in a heartbeat!  I have never heard of anyone having trouble getting pg after Mirena. I have had several friends successfully get pg.
  • I'd agree: Mirena FTW!

Unfortunately, I also agree that insertion was extremely painful and (tmi) quite messy.  I've had it for almost a year, and I love it.  Highly, highly recommend.

We aren't haven't anymore kids, so I'm not much help on the pregnancy front, but from what I've heard, it's not a problem.  Good luck!

  • I have no children and got the Mirena in November and LOVE it!  I was worried about the insertion with never having had kids but my insertion wasn't  too bad--mainly two 5-10 second intervals of severe cramping and it's all done.  She did have me take something the day before to prime the cervix so that may have helped.  I didn't have a lot of bleeding after insertion but spotted for a couple of weeks, had one period after that and since, don't have one which I love--I already know I'll get another when this one is done--no regrets at all!
  • I had the mirena placed after DS and it was very uncomfortable being inserted (got very lightheaded and almost passed out)...but I loved it- had 2-3 months of light bleeding and then nothing...took it out and got pregnant the next month.  After DD, I has it placed at 8 weeks and didn't feel a think and no bleeding...much better experience so far-
  • I am the minority. I had it and hated it. However, I had no issues getting pregnant after having it removed. I had it removed in September, and got pregnant in October.

  • Mirena = Full of Awesome

Got pregnant within 1 month of removing.

Will be getting them until the end of time as I love not getting my period.
