Does anyone here shop with coupons?

I recently got this wild notion that I should start shopping with coupons and I realized two things:

1. I think I will save on groceries the same amount that I paid for the paper.
2. The temptation to buy things I normally wouldn't because I have a coupon is great.
3. I feel like a total loser handing over a stack of coupons I think are correct for the things I have purchased.

That's my problem with coupons. I get the Sunday paper, but lately I haven't really been clipping many coupons unless its something I know I need.

  • I buy too much crap if I try to clip coupons. If I come across a coupon for an item I know I will use (toothpaste, razors, etc) I use it.

  • I use coupons.  I typically get the newspaper from my FIL or aunt, so I don't have to buy it just to get the coupons.

There is a temptation to buy things that I normally wouldn't just to get a deal, but I have cut back on that a lot.  It is not worth the time and brain power to figure out the deal on something I may or may not use.

The best tip I can give is to wait until something is BOGO at Publix.  You can use one manufacturer's coupon on each and one store OR competitor coupon on each.  A lot of the time this will result in free products.

Ex: Seventh Generation Soap $3.99 BOGO

2 manu coupons for $1 off and 2 Whole Foods coupons for $1 off = $4 in coupons, thus TWO free products.

  • That's what I'm trying to do.  I have a friend who is one of those crazy awesome coupon people who get paid to buy stuff.  I don't think she has paid for diapers in over a year!  I don't think my time/aggravation is worth the money though, so for now, I'll just use the ones for stuff I know I need.

  • My mom is a crazy awesome coupon lady.  Inspired by her, I tryyyyy.  What ends up happening is:  I find the time to clip, compare to ads, etc.  By the time I CAN go to the store, everything's gone.  Then I get frustrated.  OR....I need something real quick, pick it up when I'm out....and my coupons are at home.  haha

Post baby, my goal is to work from home a few days a week.  One of the things I want to try during my home days is couponing....and shopping at the crack of dawn to beat the grocery hogs.

  • I think they should just build an Aldi's and I'll be good.  lol
