Surveyor was supposed to come out today to stake the property line... Or, at least, that was my assumption based on my phone conversation last week. I just called the surveyor because the construction company is here to work on building my retaining wall, and come to find out, the surveyor won't be here until Wednesday afternoon / Thursday morning, at the earliest.
So, I just talked to the foreman on our project, and told him that we won't know the definite property line until later in the week. Fortunately he understood. They'll start the wall inside my property and will work towards the property line, stopping about 5ft short of our projected end point. Then in the next couple of days they'll do other work on the property (irrigation, loom, etc.) before completing the wall on Thursday.
What an annoyance though!
*deep breath*
Let me just keep looking on the bright side. It will all get done. The delay just means my money stays in my bank account longer. The delay will probably be better for the grass, since it will have less super hot sun to contend with while establishing itself.
*sigh*

Re: The best laid plans... (landscaping vent, what else?!)
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

Yessirree! They're making quick work of it too. Once they complete what they have materials for (which was another issue, I found out about... We had thought of doing a 50ft wall, but were quoted a price for a 40ft wall. So they only have the materials to do the 40ft wall. Which as long as things get graded easily, might not be that bad either since the surveyors won't be out until mid week now, and the wall should definitely stop short of that mark).
Here's a quick idea of what we've been dealing with.
Full-sized picture linked to here.
They said they have enough material to go about 46ft with the wall. If after the surveyor gets here, it's too far, they'll just dismantle the portion of the wall that they need to. They aren't going to seal the capstones after 40ft, just in case.
The wall is almost completed. They're back-filling the upper level and grading now. It looks great so far. Next comes irrigation and loom, then hydroseed!!
I'm definitely getting excited! It's almost done.
Now to choose what mix of plants I actually want in front of my house. I have a list of plants that have been suggested by several different landcapers, and my "tree-geek" friend, so now I have a decision to make. Will probably wait until the fall / spring before getting to that though.
Surveyor came yesterday, and the wall at 46ft is about 4in inside our property line, so we're fine! Surveyor actually told contractor that they did a great job, and must have done this before. But, the property line was a total guess on my part. GOOD GUESS!!
Contractors are clearing out more of the fringe area along the neighbor's property, and should be doing the irrigation either today or tomorrow, with hydroseeding coming after that. There's a light at the end of this tunnel!
Wow, that is awesome, Alicia! Coming along very nicely!! We did some landscaping as well in the backyard - had some dead bushes removed, and tons of roots from a tree that we had taken down a few years ago. We had it hydroseeded and it is coming in nicely so far (though not sure what is up with the crab grass in some spots - yuck). Could you send me the list of plants that you have? We'll need to plant some in the backyard at some point too, and I am clueless.
Can't wait to see the finished yard!
Here's the list of proposed plants for the front of my property.
Hinoki Cypress
Blue Princess Holly
Gumpo Pink Azalea
Morning Light Grass
Happy Return Day Lily
Catmint
Purple Coral Bells
Boxwood
If you'd like to see the email my friend sent me about that particular list of plants, then I would be more than happy to forward it to you. He's my landscaping sounding block, and I respect his opinion. I am looking for an understated, relatively easy to maintain planting bed.
