** jenn248 ** re: Kindle

However, you can share books with other Kindle owners that you know (I think most books can be lent up to six times) by registering their Kindle to your account and transfering the books, and vice versa.

My husband and I both have our Kindles registered to my account.  Do you know what happens if I were to deregister mine and register it to a friends?  Would it wipe my Kindle clean and only add books from my friend's account?  Or could I have books from both accounts at the same time (e.g. the ones I had downloaded when it was registered to mine, and the new ones from hers)?

Thanks!

  • It shouldn't.  Basically what is on your Kindle will stay on your Kindle unless you remove it.  So your friend should be able to register yours to her account, transfer the books, and then unregister yours; it may take a few minutes, but it should just add her books to what is already on your Kindle (the same as if you had downloaded new books yourself).  Even if she somehow erases what is on your Kindle, you should be able to go into your account and re-transfer the books you and your husband have purchased back onto your Kindle.  I've actualy only been the transferer of books, rather than the recipient (we bought my ILs Kindles for Hannukah, and I transferred most of my books to them), but I don't think there were any problems with losing books.

One thing to note is that the books your friend transfers will not show up in your online account, only on your Kindle. If at some point you choose to deleter her books from your Kindle, they're gone (unless she is kind enough to transfer them again).

I'm guessing that if you and your husband both use one account, you already know how to transfer the downloaded books onto different Kindles but if not and you want me to talk you through it, just let me know.

  • Thanks so much!  I will definitely try this with my friend soon.

I think you just mean that you go to archived items while it's attached to the account, then click on it to download it to your Kindle.  Correct?

  • You might be able to do it that way.  What I do is going to "Manage your Kindle" and your Kindle library should be listed.  There should be a drop down menu that says "Actions" next to each title.  From there, select "Deliver to..." and whatever name you gave your friend's Kindle should come up there (after you've registered hers to your account, of course).  It sometimes takes a few minutes to show up on the Kindle itself, but that should be all you need to do to transfer a book from your account to her Kindle, or vice versa.  Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to select multiple books at once, so you have to do this for each book you want to transfer.
