I posted this over at the travel board but I thought you ladies might have some insight as well:
We're going to the Porcupine mountains in a couple of weeks and we have a tentative reservation of one of the cabins at Lake of the Clouds Resort. Anyone stay there? Have another suggestion? It seems a lot of places have availability because we're going once school is back in session.
We would prefer somewhere with a fire ring and a kitchen for cooking. Thanks!
Also, other recs? There are so many trails...anything really memorable? I always feel so overwhelmed by large trail maps with so many to choose from! Usually when we hike we go for the entire day but plan to be back to sleep indoors. H isn't much of a camper because he's a city boy! If I had my way, we'd spend the entire time out in the woods lol!
Thanks!
Re: Wandering over from Chicago with a Q
I've never been to the Porcupines, but DH went there a few times growing up and my IL's LOVE the porcupines, they actually just went up there for their anniversay.
The Lake in the Clouds resort I"ve heard good things about. Also, for hiking - Lake in the Clouds itself is gorgeous and when my IL's were up there a few weeks ago - there are some gorgeous trails and look outs for the Lake. There are so many trils, I know my IL's just pack a lunch and wander for the day to see things - I don't think they've ever done the same trails twice!
Let m know if you want anymore info, I can ask DH!
