What should I bring? (food related)

So best friend just asked if I would be willing to bring a supplemental dessert for her son's christening on Sunday. I said absolutely, especially since she is about to lose her mind Wink

Any suggestions as to what to bring? They will have a cake already and I thought about doing a fruit platter with dip but there will already be one of those on the food buffet. There will be about 50 people there.

I was thinking some kind of bar or bite size treat that could be taken in addition to the cake. Thoughts? Suggestions? Bueller?

  • I made these Oreo Cheesecake Bars for a party a few weeks ago and they were amazing. If I did it again, I'd cut them smaller than I did and take the suggestion on the recipe of serving them on cupcake papers.

For fruit desserts, I make these blueberry bars a lot and they're always well received

  • what about like a fruit bar, like raspberry or peach crumble bars, or lemon blueberry bars/buckle?

Or mini cheesecakes made in muffin tins?  I think I have a recipe saved for oreo cheesecakes with an oreo in the bottom for the crust....

  • I'm trying to avoid chocolate because the cake is chocolate (I should have mentioned it before).

I like the idea of a fruit bar and had been thinking of like a lemon/raspberry bar but like the idea of a crumble kind of thing as well.

Nooner- I was looking through PLFF and got a lot of ideas and might do salted caramel blondies or your non-recipe of rice krispie treat "cupcakes" because there will be a lot of little kids there that I think would love them...plus rice krispie treats are so cheap to make, winning!

Ames and Beth- those recipes are now saved on my computer, gracias!

omg, those blondies are to die for.  I really need to make those again.  And totally agree that the mini rice krispie treats would be way kid friendly.

Here's the Blueberry Oatmeal Crumble Bars I have saved.  And Lemon Blueberry Buckle.  You could easily sub raspberry too.   Apparently I have blueberries on the brain.

  • im making caramel crumb bars for Andys Grandpa's 80th this weekend.

its basically a shortbread bottom, dulce de leche, and a crumb top (the shortbread reserved with more butter and sugar and flour added). its easy and delicious. it tastes like a See's Candy Lollipop.
