Have you ever taken a real break (1 week or more, maybe) from nesting, facebook, twitter, google plus, other social networking, etc.?
Lately I've noticed myself checking some of these sites even when I really should be using my time in another way (like now, for example). I can't help but think I might feel more "in the moment" and less like I always need to multi-task if I could just let some of my online interests go for a while... But then what if someone posted something here that would be really beneficial and I miss it??
Yep, that's what keeps me comin' back.
Have you done it? For how long? Other thoughts about going "unplugged"?
Re: QOTD: "Unplug" for a while..?
I gave up Facebook for four months not too long ago. I was on it ALL.THE.TIME, and got sick of it. I finally caved and re-activated my account, and I've been much better about it since.
The hardest part was the first day, but then it was so nice to not be on my computer once in a while. I just kept telling myself that I would know the important things - I don't need FB to hear news from friends. If they posted it on FB, and didn't tell me in person (or on the phone), then it isn't imporant enough, ya know?
Yes, I thought about doing this alot. Especially since I got my Iphone I find that any quiet moment I have I'm on my phone or computer checking FB, the nest, pinterest, blogs, etc. I keep thinking I need to unplug for awhile and realize I'm not missing much ;-)
The hardest part for me wouldn't be FB/Nest, it would be pinterest and blogs. I love getting on there and looking for sewing/craft ideas. I would love to limit myself to 30minutes a day on these sites. Right now I spend 1hr at nap time and 1-2hrs at night when DD goes to bed and DH's watching tv! It's a baaad habit.
Without going into details, I'm going through some turmoil on the home front that makes me dislike technology. I have been online much less recently and it has been nice. I was no addict by far (but that's what they all say), but I feel I'm more in touch with what really matters now.
I haven't been able to completely go cold turkey though. I have a slow job and a smartphone - not helpful!
Good luck!
