getting ready to start school...need encouragement!
I would love some encouragement here. Getting ready to go to school full-time. I have a great husband and a little girl who will be going into 1st grade. I also work as a bookkeeper for my church part time and I love it. It's been about 6 years since we both got out of the army and we have decided its time to use our GI Bill. Everything is going great as far as paperwork is concerned. The thing I'm kinda worried about is getting back into a classroom. It's been 11 years since I was in a classroom I was in the Army for 5 years and thats what I chose to do right out of highschool. I liked it a lot. Well, thanks for reading, bring on your comments

Re: getting ready to start school...need encouragement!
I can't say that I was out of school for 11 years before returning, but I think it is difficult for anyone to really know what going to college and what the learning environment will be like. It really depends on the college. Is it small or large? If you are in large lecture hall with 100+ student, be prepared to be self motivating, but if you are in a smaller setting make sure to really take advantage of asking your professors any questions that you have to get through the class.

All of the discipline you developed in the Army will serve you well in school Hook up with the other vets on campus so you aren't surrounded by kids & have a support group / study group more your age / speed.
All of the attention to detail you have as a bookkeeper will also serve you well in school.
Since you mentioned Church, I remind you that as long as there are tests there will be prayer in school.
Finally I offer you a study technique I teach my students:
1. Read the assigned material before class & take notes. Outline form was my favorite but any note taking is fine. If you can type the notes all the better. If you hand write them leave lots of open space on the page. If you encounter vocabulary words / jargon write out each word on a seperate index card. On the back write the definition.
2. Go to class. Pay attention & take notes.
3. After class compare the notes you took in class to the notes you took on your own from the reading. Add in additional / new / overlooked material & make a point of anything that was emphasized in class.
4. Form a study group of people who use the same technique. Before the test, swap notes so everybody has a copy of everybody else's notes. Read theirs & add anything you need to yours. Quiz each other using the vocabulary flash cards you made. Your husband & friends can also help you use the flashcards w/o knowing anything about the subject.
5. If having time to study is an issue, read your notes aloud into a recorder & play the disc / tape back when you drive or are doing laundry . . . whatever.
6. If there is a test bank available for the professor, get your hands on it & review the prof's style before the tests.
Congrats on going back to school! FI joined the USMC out of hs and he had a hard time adjusting to school when he EAS'd. Actually, he quit going.
Try to take actual brick and mortar classes. Online classes can be difficult to catch on to.
Get a study group together. They can be a lifesaver!
Take notes.
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
