Robyn & Julie

So, thought I would update you on DH's doc stuff.

So, from his Lactose Test he took a month ago... (which we were like 95% sure he was lactose intolerant) and they called him a few weeks back telling him he wasnt... well he is.

Today when they called him with the colonoscopy results, they again told him to take the test, and he said he did so they looked them up while on the phone with the nurse she said "Yes, you are Lactose intolerant"

Apparently 1-20 is  very intolerant, he scored 21 which (21-25 is more than likely but its a "gray" area).

DH is going to eat as though he has Celiac and avoid dairy and see how that helps. I really think it will make a large difference.   I also think it will help with his anxiety too! Thanks again for all of the links you shared!  :)

Re: Robyn & Julie

  • Don't you love conflicting test result interpretations... from the SAME TEST?!  Ughhh, that's so frustrating.

I really hope this is the ticket for him.  Be sure to read up on hidden gluten (i.e. soy sauce, malt flavoring, etc.), cross contamination, etc.  Also be aware that there's often a "honeymoon period", where the first few weeks to months off of gluten he may feel awesome, then slowly start slipping into the same symptoms again.  This is pretty common, and indicates that there's something else he's intolerant of.  For a lot of Celiacs, that's dairy and soy.

There's a whole group of message boards here:   http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/  These message boards have been invaluable to me.  He can learn so much from those people.

Thanks for the update!  Good luck to you both, and feel free to ask any questions along the way!

  • Good luck to him, Jessi!!  We were lucky where Peyton still feels 1000% better just going off gluten (sister could not afford to lose the fat she gets from dairy at 33lbs!) almost a year later.

Keep us updated too on how things go!!
