My bad wife story

Today is B's b-day. I told him I would cook him brats for his dinner. We had his dinner last night, figuring it would be easier to do on a night I didn't work. Well anyways, I dinked around and got a late start, so I was already behind on things. I then realized I left the brats on the counter all afternoon. I made a mad dash to my neighbors and had her stay at the house for five minutes so I could get new ones. So much for having dinner ready when he got home.

Then, we decided not to do gifts for b-days anymore, rather instead going out to dinner. We have a gift card from credit card reward points to go to Reds in a few weeks, so I didn't do a gift. I still felt like I should get him something little though, but couldn't think of anything.

And..I think this is the best. We aren't big on cakes or dessert and with Allison's b-day we are all caked out. I still felt like I should come up with something for him to have. However I was too lazy and cheap to come up with a dessert idea. So....(laughing)....I took a rubber band to secure birthday candles to a can of beer and brought it out on plate with the candles lit. The girls and I sang him "Happy Birthday."  He was laughing. I should have had a camera ready. He had the girls help him blow out the candles. So there they are ...sitting around a can of beer with lit candles.

I'm sure we will have cake at his mom's on Sat.

  • The beer with candles is very creative!

And I don't think any part of your story makes you a bad wife.

That is awesome!!!  Go you, I love it!

H would not have been in the dog house if he did something funny like this for me.

  • The candles on a beer is genius!! I see this as a good wife story.

    Yes

Dude, for real.  Don't make me repeat my bad H story!  CryingWink

  • Why are you beating yourself up?  The only negative thing I see here is forgetting the brats on the counter, and we all forget things.  I think you stayed w/in agreed upon guidelines and still honored him in a way that was creative, funny, and memorable.  Cake is just a placeholder, you excelled!

I was totally joking on the bad wife...I was going to joke that I was the female Mr.DesandMol.

Actually I would have been a awesome wife had I had bought him beer. I was going to put the candles on bottle of Oberon but he had taken a can of Heiken out of the fridge so I grabbed it out of his hand and told him to go in the dining room.

I thought the whole night was comical...it was one thing after another. It looked like a tornado hit the kitchen - with that mess I should had at least made a gourmet meal not brats and corn.

I will say I did better than three years ago when we spent the night in Ludington and on our way home on I realize I hadn't even happy birthday yet. I knew it was his birthday, but yet forgot in the morning.
