DH is thinking about doing this to make some extra money. He has lots of food service experience so I'm sure it would come easy to him. I'm worried though that all these schools seem very spammy/scammy. They don't even post the price of the classes, you have to call and I presume submit to their high pressure sales tactics of course. So before he calls I'd like to know if anyone has experience with these at all. We just figure it would be the quickest way for him to get up and running in that field. Is it worth looking into? What kind of costs are we looking at?
Re: Bartending school?
My sister and I looked into Bartending school this summer. We found the prices ranged from $600-3k depending on area and all the extras they tried to sell.
We were advised ( by current bartenders and managers) that our best bet was to get a job at a restaurant serving or hosting or something and then connect with the bartender and learn that way and then move into that position. Apparently around here, no one really takes the bar tending school credential seriously. Experience serving and such is much more highly regarded. In might be different in your area, but I would talk with some bartenders first.
your instincts are right. It's a scam.
Have DH get a job in food service then get on the job training. It's the best way to learn.
