Who has a KitchenAid mixer?

I'm looking into getting one, but I didn't realize there are so many different options! So far I've seen the Classic, Artisan, Architect, Pro Line (I doubt I need this one).

Which one do you have and do you love it? Do you have any opinions on the ones I've mentioned above?

TIA!

Re: Who has a KitchenAid mixer?

  • I have the Artisan.  I think that it's the most that any home cook would ever need.  I love it.  Use mine several times a week.  Favorite kitchen appliance, hands down.

  • I believe I have the classic. I have had it for about 8 years and still love it. I don't use any attachments, just the mixer itself. My cousin registered for a Pro version. It looks awesome but is really expensive.
  • I'm pretty sure I have the Artisan in the Pistachio color. I love it. I'm not much of a baker, but I've used it several times for the few times I have baked as well as to make pancake and waffle mix. Its just so easy to use and is one of those appliances that just looks really nice sitting out on the counter, instead of hiding in a cupboard.
  • I have the Artisan (in Blue Willow) and I love it. And it's pretty on the counter. I don't have any attachments either, but it's so useful. We get a lot of use out of it.

  • I have the Classic in white. It was a hand-me-down from my mom when she upgraded, it's about 15 years old and it still works marvelously.
  • Thanks all! I tried this chocolate chip cookie recipe yesterday (which was amazing!) but it took me foreverrrrr to mix with my hand mixer. So not worth the effort.

Anyway, do most of you just have the 5qt size?

  • I have the 5qt Artisan in red.  I love it, although I do find that I have to use a spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl sometimes while it's mixing.  Not sure if that's typical with standmixers, but I just use the regular mixing attachment and it doesn't always quite get everything mixed in.

  • I have the 5.5 qt Pro in Black. Mine has the bowl lift as opposed to the tilt head.

I like it, sometimes I wish I had the tilt head. But I got mine on sale at Costco for $200. Heres the link (Its $270 right now)

I think the important thing to consider is bowl size and wattage. If you make a lot of doughs that are harder to mix, you would want something more powerful. Or if you make a lot of double batches where you would need a larger bowl size, that would be a factor too.

  • I also have a Pro, but I have the 6 qt one.  Mine is cobalt blue.

May I recommend getting a blade with silicone edges (brand names on these are Beater Blade and Sideswipe) and an extra bowl?  They're awesome to have.
