Someone already defaced the 35W Memorial.
It angers me something fierce that it's only been up 2 days and already someone defaced it. What a crappy thing to do.
Re: Someone already defaced the 35W Memorial.
I saw that on kstp.com and thought, WTF. I had hoped it was damaged from a storm or something, but that's highly unlikely.
They were sterling silver letters valued at $4k. I wonder if craigslist or ebay will have sterling silver letters for sale sometime soon...
sick.
So sad.
I haven't seen the memorial yet - but my dad worked on it! His company did the water parts of the memorial and my dad was the guy from the shop in charge of getting the work done. (Fun fact - my dad also did the new penguin exhibit at the MN Zoo! Papa Mc is getting around!) I am looking forward to seeing the 35W Memorial and paying tribute, it's sad someone had to mess with it already.
I know it seems that everyone has their "I should have been there" story - but I really should have been there! I did WW with a few knottie friends and every other week we met in Roseville. I was always driving home, on 35W, at the time that the bridge fell, at pretty much that exact time. I bought my wedding dress that day so I skipped going to WW. Random chance, so thankful, but sorry for those who were injured and lost their lives.

scary! Had my SIL not taken one last phone call at work, her and her BF would have been on it too. They were under the Washington Ave bridge when it collapsed.
And it's so disgusting that someone messed with it already
Is that final destination 5? I hate horror/action movies myself, and I hate them even more when they keep making them over and over...
As for the bridge its disgusting that they already defaced it...my guess is we won't ever see those, they have recycling plants that'll pay you money, or they'll get melted down so no one will know. Higher likelihood is that the vandals didn't know they were worth that much because most people who do stupid crap like that aren't that bright.
Yeah, when we saw that preview, that was the first thing my DH pointed out. I wonder if anyone/any groups here in Mpls will protest it or anything? Think so? I agree with JanellsNest, I don't like those movies and the fact that they keep making them, over and over, is annoying.
This is exactly what I was going to say
I think it's just horrible that this happened.
That said...20 letters were worth $4000! Why did they make the letters out of sterling silver and then put them in a place that could be easily stolen? I counted up the rest of the letters in the sign, and they must have spent between $25,000 and $30,000 on letters. Wow. That just seems expensive.
