I just saw your post on the Travel Board on Islas Cies. It looks amazing! Do you tent camp only? Gah, I might have to bring my tent over here for this one. How do you usually get there? When would you recommend visiting?

I think I'm smitten!

Re: *Lady Madrid*

  • Yay, I've convinced someone!  Yes, it is incredible and there is only tent camping.  You can either bring a tent or rent a tent from them (more expensive, not sure how much).  It's only tent camping as you can't take cars on the island.

We usually get there by taking a car to Vigo, leave it in a parking there, and take a ferry to Islas Cies.  They have a parking right next to the ferry dock and it wasn't too expensive if I recall correctly.  If you don't take a car, I'm sure there are buses you could take from Madrid to Vigo or from Santiago if you're there too.

For camping on the island you have to go in the summer months (which are pretty much the only times you'd want to visit anyway) OR over Semana Santa weekend which is nice because there are not as many people camping at that time.  Most people don't know they open at Semana Santa, but you run the risk of crappy weather.  I'd still say summer is better (we've gone twice, once in summer and once over semana santa) and on the ferry you can even see dolphins sometimes!  We didn't, but DH's parents saw some when they went.

If you have any more questions I'd be glad to try and help!  I am completely in love with Islas Cies and think everyone should visit.  ;)
