A few dog-related items

1. There was a "Pet Sale Expo" in town this weekend. Basically a bunch of puppy mill owners who tried to portray themselves as breeders, trying to sell their dogs. The ads actually said, "[Animals] 30-70% Less Than Pet Store Prices!" They had protesters there and everything.

The news showed up and did an investigative thing, too. They interviewed one "breeder" who went on and on about how Puppy Mills give legit breeders a bad name and how she's definitely not a puppy mill ("Puppies are my LIFE!!1!!!11!"). But when the camera crew asked if they could come see her facility, she said, "Oh no. No one is allowed to see my kennel. The puppies are succeptible to disease." (Humans can't transfer sicknesses to dogs, first of all. And second, any good breeder would allow anyone access to their kennel because they have nothing to hide and encourage human-dog interaction.)

The douchebagg who's running this show said the thing was so successful, he's going to do it once a month now. It just sickens me.

And 2. We went into PetSmart to get Toby a new bed this weekend and almost came out with this little guy. We spent a good 15 minutes playing with him. He was three years old and MAYBE 15 pounds - just itty bitty and so cute and affectionate. We were both really considering it, but ultimately we realize we really dont' need another dog right now. *le sigh*

Re: A few dog-related items

  • omg pardon me for a moment but

ooszy wooszy booboo. Who's a cute widdle behbeh? Ooszy woowoo!

Ok, now that I've gotten that out of my system, it's probably good you didn't get that adorable and sweet puppy. Probably.

As for puppy mills, yep... pretty sick. It's like the Walmart of breeding.

  • Even worse, Yoshi: I got down on my knees to play with him and he came up, put one paw on my leg, and nuzzled my chin. I died, looked at H, and he was dead as well.

  • You know, Toby could use a little brother. Just saying.
  • C'mon... you guys SO need another puppy!!!  ;)

  • Do you want to go get him, and mail him to me? I would gladly accept, even C.O.D.

And it's pretty farking sick about that "expo".  How pathetic.  Our breeder let us take a tour of the whole thing and has multiple pictures on his website.  :(

  • Anyone who wont tell you where an animal came from or let you see their facility has something to hide. I thought everyone knew that. Can you call the animal cops or something? Can they even do anything?

I have called the cops several times on a pet store in our neighborhood because they have puppies in metal cages stacked on each other (nothing on the bottom of the cage either, just the wire of the cage). The last time I went in they were 4 cages high. Its sick the way people think they can treat animals.
