WWND?

I recently had a meeting with the director of the dance school where I teach. She informed me that she hired a new, young teacher to teach almost all my classes because she can pay her peanuts compared to what she pays me. I'm left with 3 classes, one of which has 21 students in it. Typically, I have a class size of 10-12. I asked her to split the class up, but she doesn't want to pay me for another hour. She swore she would help me, but I called her out on it. She makes promises like that all the time, but then has something better to do & never shows up. She admitted that I was right, but still won't split up the class. I gave her 3 other options, but she still wouldn't budge. MH thinks I should tell her to go F herself, but I really enjoy teaching. I've been looking for somewhere else to each, but so far, no luck. With my other FT day job, I just don't need her aggravation when I'm teaching because I enjoy it. If you were me, WWYD?

  • Yup, I'm with DH, I would be out.  I would still see what else you find.  Also, maybe try to get in to teach fitness classes at a gym instead?

  • P.s. If the owner is choosing young, unexperienced teachers over you, that is going to reflect poorly on the studio as well.  Things are only going to go downhill.

  • I forgot to mention that the studio is already going downhill. She told me she plans on closing her doors in 5 years. I'm kinda thinking she's letting it go downhill so it will be easier for her to close her doors. This year will be her 20th year in business.

  • Are you guaranteed to be able to keep on teaching those 3 classes, or will she eventually give those to the younger teacher too? And if you can keep teaching them, is it worth it to only teach 3? If you can still enjoy it and still get decent money for it, while still being able to juggle your FT job, I guess I would keep teaching. But if you're not very happy at the dance school anymore, and if the director is causing you too much anxiety, I can imagine leaving. That is crappy :-/
  • Good news - I got a response from another dance school through email.
Cons- She's friendly with current director & the drive is farther. We'll see how this plays out.

It's guaranteed that I will be teaching those 3 classes for the year. The new teacher will be teaching in another room at the same time. There is no guarantee that I will be teaching those classes the following year though. Is it financially worth it to only teach 3 classes? No. I wouldn't be doing it for the money. I'd only be doing it because I enjoy it. Is the teaching worth the aggravation? Probably not, but I know I would really miss it if I stopped completely.
