have you outgrown your house
i used to LOVE my house....it is just not me anymore....my house is so brown-ish and yellow...which i used to love....i just want everything white/gray now...for you interior deco blog followers...i would love to see some transformations like this...if you know any links please post!!!

The house we bought was cream/yellow/bleh!!! We are still working on it, but we painted the kitchen cabinets white, installed granite, put in a glass backsplash and new floor. It's like a whole new kitchen!
This house is strange. We are still in the bonding phase. I'm still decorating it and just don't have the same bond with it as our previous house. I just had a better feel for the old house. This one... not so much...
At the first floor yes (want more square footage) The second floor (not even close). We barely use the upstairs space. We wash clothes up there! But we have 3 bedrooms and a game room that barely get used.
So we want a 1 story, but not for like 5 years.

Well we've been here almost 3 years and I haven't done squat with the walls. There are untinted can's of SW paint sitting in the dining room from the last sale.
Now I need someone who knows how to painted curved walls. Or a link to the science because I can't figure it out. At least I'm not sure what I think should be done is right.
The niche cabinets are in and we just need to order the glass for the doors. I've found "the" glass pattern just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Anyone have any info I'd love it. I also say that the pattern I like comes in a glass cling/sticker that you can' put on clear glass. Sounds much cheaper, if I can find who sells the darn things.
*** to answer your question- no. We've got plenty of space. Just not enough funds to do everything we want :-(

Paint is cheap, move some furniture around, swap out some pictures/decor. I love changing things when I have house envy.

We just moved into our house after years of renting. Not being able to paint, without having to cover it up when we moved and tons of hand me down decor I was finally ready to decor my house my way, its still a work in progress.
I started store browsing and then internet browsing until I found a style that I (and DH) both liked. We both agreed we really like a clean, simple, contemporary yet comfortable style...and I hate clutter, makes me stress out. The house we bought had crazy bright colors, but it was nothing a few coats of paint couldn't change. There are nice crown mouldings throughout the house, so deciding on a color was easy...grey for the walls.
I found a blog, which I think someone menitoned on this board a longgggg time ago. They have really helped me with inspriation...and then I found Pinterest...heavenly! I started following Honey We're Home, she is actually in Houston, and I really like her style. I actually painted our living room/entry/dining room walls the same as her bedroom color, Sherwin Williams Anew Grey, I fell in love with the color right when I saw it. On her blog she has a bunch of blogs she follows that I like as well. Hope you can find some inspiration.

Pretty much this. We didn't buy a starter house - we bought a "forever" house, so we have plenty of room. And it was a pretty new house (4 y/o), so it was move in ready. We get things done every few years. When we first moved in, we added handles to the kitchen cabniets and painted the picture framing in the dining room, the next year we put in a mini-patio in the back (but just a DIYer) and added some palm trees in the back. Then, we changed up our bedding and bought some paintings/decor for the living areas. Last year, we had pretty much all of the interior painted (much better than the "Builder Beige"!), and this year, we added some flower beds in the back. I think we are going to get a sprinkler system, soon, as well. DH really wants us to change our flooring next year before Thanksgiving (we are hosting), but I know it's going to be a huge expense, and he wants hardwood, and I prefer carpet - so we'll be battling that out in the next year.
We are really bad decorators and haven't don't much in that area. I am in the boat of not wanting to pay someone to do it, but not having any good ideas (or time) myself! We are just taking it step by step - as we have the funds to do things here and there. Since we bought our "forever" house, I at least feel comfortable knowing that we will be able to get to enjoy any upgrades long term, so I have no qualms about doing them - it's just the money that's the deciding factor.
I eventually want to change out our floors (our berber carpet is getting runs in it and is stretching out, so it's really starting to look ratty), get fireplace glass doors (not a huge expense, but I haven't found any I like, yet), get drapes or some sort of curtain decor for the living room (20 ft ceiling drapes are $$$, apptly!), replace the kitchen counters and tile (the counters are silestone, I think, but they are brown, and just NMS and the tile is also a light brown, which is a good neutral, but they used little 2in x 2in tiles for the backsplash walls, and I prefer the look of the larger tiles), redo the patio and build out with a 2nd story deck that the upstairs gameroom could walk out onto, possibly replace our wooden stair spindles with wrought iron.
None of these are a "must do", but they are just things in my head that I hope I can eventually change!
Not really...although I'm also feeling the need to do something to the house. Thus the floors this weekend. I'm also going to then get the ball with some new curtains, decor, photo frames, etc.
I'd love more rooms...bigger rooms. But we really don't need them. I do get tired of the toys taking over, but it is just as easy to organize and purge. The only thing that could change the situation is if we either have another kid or one of us has to WAH. Our guestroom is stuffed with a full size bed, treadmill and the worlds smallest desk.
I'm actually finally to the point where I'm happy with our house. There aren't too many more things I want to do to it or need for it, which is nice. I really disliked it for a long time but slowly changed it up and now we love it.
Our house used to be warmer tones and we've really gone the opposite direction. Unintentionally, it's all very tonal which I LOVE. It's calm, serene, and beautiful while still being very livable and not stuffy.
We've also done a huge kitchen facelift, which helped a ton.
If you are just tired of how it looks, go through pinterest and pin of bunch of home pics that catch your eye. After you have a good number, figure out what it is that you love about each one then use that to decide what to do to your own house. Simply a change of paint can really make a huge difference.

This. There is no reason that 2 adults and 1 4 year old (and 1 dog) should not be able to live comfortably in a 2200 sf home with a 2 car garage AND a storage unit outside.
My DH does have a TON of sporting equipment that he uses. But for pete's sake, I should be able to get my car in that garage and we shouldn't have all 3 spare closets jam packed.
I need to get working on cleaning out all the closets and purging - it's on my 101/1001 list!

Crazy Christmas Kids!
We just bought our house in February. We have three bedrooms and a game room upstairs that we dont even use. We do use every inch of space downstairs though. We intentionally bought a bigger house than we need in the hopes that it could be our "forever house" or at least a 10-15 house.
I am too scared to pull the trigger on any decor projects though! After years of renting, I just don't know what I want the overall style of the house to be. Also, I'm cheap and don't want to spend a ton of money until I am certain.
Paint. paint paint paint. It's easy to change!

This sounds like us. We went from 800 sft to almost 2700. We've been in our house for almost 2 years and I am just now tackling upstairs.
I just decided on paint and bedding for a guest room. I've got an idea for what I want in the game room, and hopefully I can convince DH to get new living room furniture so the current set can go upstairs. I also have a room that I will hopefully use as a nursery soon, but is currently bright red. I plan on just priming it. I'm still at a loss on what to do with extra bedroom upstairs. We plan on replacing the flooring and gutting the bath in the next year too.
It's usually recommended to redecorate your home AT LEAST every 7 years. So I think you're in the norm. We've lived in ours for 5 years now and repainted the house whole house and remodeled all of downstairs before moving in. But it actually just redid our kitchen again. It was a country apple color before (very informal and casual feel actual with old retro diner signs). Now it's a light silver blue like Restoration Hardware and we got a new chandelier and the wall decor is black and white prints in large silver frames and white mats. I am pretty sure that in 2-3 years, we'll start looking at what to do to keep the house updated.
I also think it's a norm that the older your get the more expensive the furniture gets! ha!
i hate all of you that have spare closets and a guest room...lol.
we have outgrown out house, but have decided to make it work because we only have 7 years of kids-in-the-house-all-the-time. i also got a lot less antsy once i built a potting bench and took my decorating-insanity into the backyard.
my office is the formal dining room. i would kill for walls.
as for paint, i paint whenever i feel like it. every year or so we repaint somethign because i get antsy and bored with the status quo. i think our bed/bath is next!

Yes to this. I have actually faithfully been watching Hoarders and clearing out our house. LOL I re-orged the kitchen cabinets last week and it made a huge difference. We did get a storage unit, which made me sad, but we are using it wisely and eventually I hope a lot of the stuff in there will be purged as well.
There is no reason 2 adults and 2 kids can't live in a 3br/2bath. There just isn't.
ETA: we just repainted our bedroom a light blue. it was gold when we moved in. the paint made all the difference. we are going to have the house levelled (it's pier and beam) this winter and then will have no choice but to repaint the main rooms, which will go from tan/cream to shades of gray.
