Thank you note timing question

Today I have a second interview. The position is in another department of my current company, and I already had a first interview with the recruiter last week. Today's interview is with the manger of the department I applied into.

My question is, how long should I wait after the interview before sending a thank you note? I am so excited and enthusiastic that I will just want to email her immediately, but I feel like maybe that would be overkill. For example, say our interview ends at 12:30 and she receives an e-mail from me at 12:40.

What do you think? Is that TOO soon to send a thank you? Should I wait a couple of hours or something, so I don't seem crazy about it? Or is it fine to send it immediately?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, and TIA!

  • Yeah don't be a crazy stalker...lol.  Wait a few hours then send a thank you.  GL

  • I usually wait until the next day but everyone feels different about it
  • is there a reason you're choosing to send an email instead of a handwritten thank you? If they're not making a decision in the next 24 hours, and especially because you're on-staff at the same company, I would handwrite and send the thank you rather than emailing it.

Ditto.  You can hand deliver it on Monday morning.

  • She works out of office...in another state. This interview with her is also on the phone. I am not sure if there would be a 3rd interview where she would come in office, or is she is making her decision based on her phone interviews with candidates.

Hmmm. Since it was a phone interview, I think you're right to do email. Wait until at least the next day.

In that case, I'd email her late this afternoon (4pm-ish).
