My First World problem - what to do with an iPad?
I got one at work yesterday. Box handed to me, no instructions. So what's the deal? how is this going to make my work life better? It's WiFi but apparently that means I can only get emails in wifi places? it's not 3G (or whatever) so I can't get emails when sitting in an airport, for example?
what's better about it than my laptop and blackberry (which does not have phone capability)?
I am not a fan of technology, obv, and have no idea what I am supposed to do with this -- and it's not personal, so I can't load my personal iTunes on it, Kindle, etc.

19 views and zero responses - my guess is you guys don't know, either.
Apparently it's pretty much just a big ol' smartphone with no word processing ability so ... not much. I think I'm giving it back.

Yeah, I have no idea. We don't have a ipad but we got one for the in-laws for Christmas. All I know about it are the fun apps and whatnot, I have no idea how to apply that to business.
We do have one at work that has come in handy for showing visuals in meetings.
You can't load your iTunes to it? Are you sure?
Because of the way an iPad is set up you have to link it to an Apple account. If you didn't want to use a personal one you'd have to have a separate work Apple account (which seems silly).
My work has no policy on not linking them to our personal accounts. It is mostly for email on the go, and the ability to read pdfs and open attachments and such during meetings. That and being able to run our intranet when connected to our corporate wifi, which I can't do on my BB.
Also, see if they'll get you a bluetooth keyboard. If you're going to be using it a lot for functional (non-app and non-internet purposes) this will help.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I would have to open a new work-only iTunes account, yes - cannot link to my personal one (unless I want to buy the iPad from work, which ... no.) we have wifi at work (and at home) so I just carry my laptop with me to meetings, etc., to read files from our comon network drives, read emails, etc.
I just don't see the prize... I am willing to be persuaded that it will change my life.

Eh, it may not change your life then. My 14lb Dell laptop that has about 35 min of battery since it stays docked 90% of the time and deletes printer drivers each time it is undocked, is less meeting friendly than yours seems.

yes, M&K - my work laptop is new (got it in June)... so it's fast and furious. (My home one? I got in 2004 and ... slower than molasses). I think I understand the allure but not yet at the point where I see the value for me -- I was trying to see if anyone could provide me with work justification.
it appears that I got it bc our president (in CA) wanted me to have it but the "value proposition" (hee hee -- see annoying phrases post earlier this week) for me is minimal. looks like I will be sucking it up until December, when his term ends.
I know, I know, Poor me.
