Intro and Furniture HELP!

Hi everyone, hope you're all having a good Friday.  I have been around the Nest for awhile in Los Angeles, but now living in SF (in the city).  Can't wait to kill some work time here with you all!

Anyways, as I said, I am living with my spouse in the city and am having a heck of a time finding furniture!  I guess I am just not familiar with A) city shopping and B) where all the suburbs are yet.

Any advice?  Looking for a complete bedroom set under $2k.  Not Ikea but certainly not Pottery Barn prices either.  Ideas?  I have a car and am willing to drive anywhere.

Thanks Everyone!

-Mel

  • Have you looked at Costco online?  I was looking for something - same parameters as you (better then Ikea, not so much as PB) and felt I got a great deal with really good quality from them.  Just a thought.

    And Hi!

  • Thanks Rori!  Were you pleased with the sight-unseen quality and look as compared to the photos?

    Yes, very much so.

  • Well, with costco, you can always take it back.  The stuff they have in the stores (from time to time) looks very nice and I always find their quality high.  Our problem was that online they mostly only sold sets and we only needed a bed and two side tables (and didn't have room for a dresser)

We got ours set from woodpeckers.  We went to one in San Jose but they've got a good online site.  I love the furniture.  It's just what we wanted.  But the service is awful.

  • Hi and welcome! It looks like we switched places LOL. I just moved to L.A. from the Bay Area. I'm not much help on the furniture. We still have old cheaper stuff and nothing matches per say. Other than IKEA, I've bought from Cost Plus World Market (several locations in the Bay Area, you could look up locations on their website) and been happy. I know there are independent furniture stores in Berkeley (right across the bay from SF). I don't have experience with any of them though. When I lived in Berkeley, our place was furnished. GL!
  • Another idea is West Elm, though they're in Emeryville across the bay from you. I love pretty much everything they carry, and it's nice quality and inexpensive. You could definitely get a bedroom set for under $2k there.

  • What about Room & Board?  We don't have them here on the east coast (I'm a long distance NorCal Nestie by the way) so I don't really know the price point but I've always liked the stuff I've seen them carry.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball
