help me decide!

We want to do a weekend getaway outside of London. We have a car rental we have to use sometime the next month (thanks to Groupon) and want to go for 2 or 3 nights. I have only been to Oxford and Blenheim (and lots of London) and love being out in the countryside. The problem is, there are too many options! I've been thinking of staying in Bath and then we can stop by Stonehenge and see some touristy things. I've also thought about the Cotswolds or Brighton. Does anyone want to plan my trip for me? Or at least give me ideas? Any hotels you've stayed at or places that I need to see? It has to be child friendly (she still takes 2/3 naps a day) and within 2 hours of London.

  • It might be a stretch for you to do, but when I was a kid I loved going to Dorset and the New Forest to see the ponies. I also like Kent, go to Margate for a cheesy seaside resort, visit Churchill's home etc As an Essex girl, I also recommend checking out Southend On Sea as a family destination. When I was a kid there was a huge amusement park called Peter Pan's playground. We loved it.

  • I'd either do the Cotswolds or Wales. Have a great time!
  • We love driving trips outside of London. One that we really love is Wales - we go there every chance we get!

The cotswalds are lovely, and I've always wanted to go to Penzance down south. Chippingcamden is somewhere that we are planning to go as my family went there and still raves about it.

A good way to do it is to go to www.nationaltrust.co.uk ( I think that is the site ) and it will help you to plan out your road trip so that you can see some really great national trust sites - castles, stately homes, fantastic gardens, lakes and woodland. Really lovely stuff.

Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
  • If you haven't done Bath before, I highly recommend you do that at some point.  That was one of our first weekend trips from London and we also combined it with Stonehenge.  If you want to do Stonehenge, there are limited tours available that allow you access to the inner circle at sunset or sunrise, and I think that's the best way to see it.

Otherwise, the Cotswolds, Brighton and York are on our list.  We haven't been yet but I've heard good things.  Cornwall is great but it's more than 2 hours away, and you'd want to go for longer.

The Cotswolds are actually only two hours away and perfect for a weekend trip! We loved it there. The New Forrest is also on my list, but we haven't been yet.
