I haven't used a sewing machine in 10+ years and this is my first time using the new machine I was given. I thought it would all just come back but it hasn't.
Well, after spending two hours realizing I took apart everything instead of just the bobbin and figuring out how to put it all back together, I can't get the bobbin thread to draw up.
Directions from the manual:
1. raise presser foot and needle to highest position (DONE!)
2. with your left hand hold the upper thread. With your right hand turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle moves down and back up again to it's highest position. (DONE!)
3. The upper thread should have caught the lower thread in a loop. Pull the upper thread toward you and the lower thread will come up from the bobbin in a large loop.
Step three didn't happen. Nothing happened. Any solutions? Surely I can't be the first person this has ever happened to and google isn't any help.
Thank you!

Re: Sewing machine problem. Brother LS2125.
Is the bobbin loaded right? The thread is through the needle right?
It should catch the bobbin thread when you drop the needle down.
I'm not familiar with that exact machine, but my vote is take the bobbin out and load it again. Mine has a little bobbin carrier that I have to load the bobbin thread through a little hole before it will feed right.
I do not have your machine, but on mine the thread goes through a little slit on the bobbin and is pulled up and though it. Then the bobbin goes into the holder at a slant to the left and then clicks into place when you move it to the right.
Gah, that probably makes no sense. If mine is not loaded correctly, my machine goes haywire.

Make sure that your bobbin winder
(that's this thing
, usually found on the right side at the top of your machine)
is in the off position, or to the left. If it's in bobbin winding mode, your top needle either won't pick up the bobbin thread or won't even go down fully.
No no, it makes sense.
I reloaded it. Hell, I got so desperate I just rewound the thread on it and nothing! I have no clue. It's annoying. Is there like a customer service number I can call or something? I'm making a casserole dish holder and I really don't want to do it all by hand. Blah!

just checked and yup! It's on the left. Maybe I'm just dumb? lol

Well if you are, then I am, too, because I have been known to call up my ever loving mother and troubleshoot my machine a time or two. (I know about the bobbin winder being in the wrong position because that's usually what's wrong with my machine!)
Is the needle going down at all? Is it just not picking up the thread from the bobbin? Is your bobbin slightly unwound? It should have a 1-2 inch tail coming out of the case. If it's wrapped completely tight, that might be keeping the needle from bringing up the bottom thread.
I don't have the patience to turn the wheel to start the bobbin, so I generally just grab a scrap of fabric and sew across it. This also helps me check my tension and stitch length.
My brother machine has to have the bobbin in there *just so* before it will work, too. I left a sticker on my machine just so I'd know which way to put it.
Different machines take different bobbins. It isn't easy to tell the difference. Are you sure that the bobbin you are using is the right one for your machine?
Have you tried taking the bobbin 'spool' out of the little casing, and changing direction?
This morning it magically worked. I don't know what sewing machine elf came while I was sleeping last night, but it worked. It didn't loop but it came up through the hole and that's all I care about.
Thank you all for your advice and when I have to do a new spool I'll refer back to thi when I have this same problem. As I know I will.
