If y'all are on the Depo Provera Shot or Implanon, do you like it? What are the side-effects etc. I wanna hear all sides of it, I've got an appointment about switching BC. I'm on the shot but b/c I don't plan on having a child for a while I want something a little more certain. Thank y'all so much!
Re: Shot and Implanon users
I had Implanon for about 6 months and hated it. It made me break out, no sex drive, painful cramping, fatigue, etc. I wasn't real thrilled about it especially after the pain it was to get it inserted and removal really sucked for me too.
I have had Mirena in the past and it was amazing for a couple years. I still had my period every month but some women don't. For some reason after a couple years I started experiencing negative side effects and had it removed but I would still recommend it! Good luck!
I've been on Depo Provera since 1994 and I love it. Just make sure that you get your shots when they say to (every 12 weeks) or you WILL have to take a pregnancy test before they will give it to you.
Please note that Depo Provera is not covered by insurance! I am paying $75/shot but I am trying to fight this as I take the shot for pain management of endrometriosis and not birth control. I believe this way the reason why it was written off for so many years. My insurance went from a PFFS to a PPO this year and supposedly it is not covered my Medicare.
The pros are that you have NO periods! The con is that it will take 10-18 months for your cycles to resume to normal before you can start to have children.
I hardly ever get my period with Mirena. Maybe 2-3 times a year and it's just light spotting for a couple of days. I don't even need to use anything, which is saying a lot because one of the reasons I went with Mirena is because I had very heavy periods that lasted about 2 wks and was told the Mirena would help.
I had some cramping the first few days and then about once a month when I would have gotten my period..so basically, cramping but no period.
You can also get pregnant right after taking it out. You don't have to wait for hormones to leave your system because when it's out the hormones are out.
It doesn't have estrogen which is what causes mood swings. I had a horrible time with BC pills and Nuva Ring because of the estrogen.
I will say though, I have given birth, so my experience may be different than someone who hasn't.
