James wants a brother and a sister

James told us now that he wants a brother and a sister. We told him that they will pinch him and bite him, he said that was ok. We told him that they would steal his chocolate, he said its ok, he has had enough chocolate. We told him that we will have to move to a different flat because where will the babies sleep (we in a 2 bed) he said that the babies can sleep in his room. He will share his room. He even said that the his brother and sister can have his teddies.

Now, if I can just convince DH. Oh, and that was all James' own doing, no Mom manipulation anywhere.

Re: James wants a brother and a sister

  • Ask him again when he's 12 ;) do you want 2 more kids or just 1 more?
  • I would have 18 more if I could, but realistically we are are only going to have 1 more. We did tell him that to have a brother and sister we would have to have twins, he said that was fine then have twins. I told him to tell his father to arrange it.

  • That sounds incredibly cute. Are you thinking of TTC in the near future?
  • Wait until he gets one. Bruce is actuslly amazingly good with eveoyn but epwe have had a few send her backs and most recently that he wanted a brother, not a sister. I told him you don't get to pick. He was less than pleased.
  • Hopefully at the end of next year we will start trying. I need to get to happy weight and James needs to be in school full time in case I have a similar pregnancy to the last time and we want a baby born after 31 Aug (because of school year).

  • Why after Aug 31 for the school year? You mean so J will already be in school when it's born, or...?

  • MrsBini10 - No, James starts school next year Sept, so if we plan to TTC end of next year for after 31 August, then James will already have been in school for a year. I want after the 31 August so that I have more time at home with #2. I have friends whose kids were born 24 August and 29 August, and they are starting school now 5 September. They feel like they missed a whole year at home with their kids, and I understand that. Kids that are born 01 September get to spend an extra year at home with mom compared to kids that are born 31 August.

So the parents have no choice in when the child starts school? That sucks. Here they don't generally have to start school (kindergarten) until after turning 6 if their parents feel they're not ready. In other words they can be "too old" for the grade level just not "too young." Of course my mom put me in Kindergarten at 4.5 because she felt I was ready and she had her hands full with 2 other kids at home :) but back then they were more flexible about such things.
  • That is adorable!! When my mom told me she was pregnant (I was 3), I said that I knew it was a girl, and that she was going to be named Jenny. They weren't finding out the sex, so they spent the next 9 months trying to get me to understand that it might not be a girl, that they didn't know. I was insistent that it was a girl. It got to the point that they were really worried about how I'd react if it was a boy, lol. When my mom had the baby, I went to the hospital she said "you have a sister!" I said "I know!" They did not name her Jenny, though.

You can delay it by a term, but your kid still goes into the same class. And then they will be missing out on those first friendships that are made. Here it is the law that your child has to start school the first September after their 4th birthday, unless you defer the term, then they start in the January.

I've been through the English school system, and I was born on August the 31st. It's not as bad as you may think. Yes I was the youngest, but I made friends easily even when starting in the Easter term.  I suppose it depends on the child, but I certainly don't feel like I missed out on anything.

  • Pseudonim - If I am honest, its less about the child being the youngest in the class and more about me keeping them at home with me for longer. Selfish, probably, but it will be my last baby, so if I can get the dates to work for me then why not.

  • I love this story!  DH and I went to a brunch today in which one of us had too many wines.  (I'm not the one.)  Before DH went to take a nap, I said one baby is easy two babies is work.

I definitely understand the hesitation.  I want to be a two kid family but right now life is easy.

Gladly! As I've discovered from questions we get on the multiples board it is really easy to get twins:

    Have sex doggy style

    eat yams

    take bith control sporadically

have your DH eat lots of spinach

pray and the deity of the church of the flying spaghetti monster will provide

wear two fertility necklaces instead of just one

Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!

Oh yeah, I totally understand. My DS is off to Kindergarten this month, his birthday is the 29th of August. I debated keeping him back a year because of his birthday, but he is very obviously ready for learning, so I bit the bullet and enrolled him.
