Last season was pretty terrible so I'm not really surprised.

It?s a sad day for the smart and sassy suburban women on Wisteria Lane: Sources confirm that ABC will announce on Sunday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that the upcoming 2011-2012 season will be the last for long-running Desperate Housewives.
Key castmembers are starting to be told, and we hear that Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria are shocked and saddened since the ABC Studios was expected to continue until 2013 after series creator said that he wanted the show to go for nine seasons.
When this season?s premiere episode is broadcast on Sunday, September 25, it will be the first without Cherry at the helm. He stepped down at the end of last season as executive producer/showrunner and is expected to be a consultant on Season 8 while focusing on development of other series. Cherry also was slapped by former castmate Nicolette Sheridan with an embarrassing lawsuit which is still winding its way through the Los Angeles courts.

while I agree that it has gone downhill, it is better than most of the alternatives. I will be upset if they dont come out with another all female dramedy to replace it. (SATC style, Desperate Housewives, that show with Kim Raver and Brooke Shields that didnt make it but I liked it)
my biggest complaint for this year was the way the show was always being interrupted. 2 weeks in a row, 2 weeks off, 1 week, 3 weeks off, 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off. it was very hard to get into. I kept forgetting what was happening.
Completely agree! I think that's an issue with TV shows in general. If the shows don't post huge ratings in the first 2-3 weeks, they start messing with the schedule.
I'm kinda sad only because this show premiered the day I got married and DH and I have been watching since day 1. I remember being so excited to watch it but I had to wait 2 weeks until I got home from my honeymoon and watched what I recorded.
HOWEVER, its not as good as it had been and I think it's time. I remember reading somewhere that Marc Cherry always said he wanted to end the show with all the main characters still in it. ( was Nicollette Sheridan a 'main' character?!) And I see his point. I think towards the end of Dallas it was just JR, Bobby, and Cliff left.
