Teacup Baby Shower

A friend and I are planning a baby shower for a lovely mommy-to-be.  We're hosting the shower at a coffeehouse, and I was thinking of a teacup theme.  The room that we rented is a deep burgandy color, so I know we're going to have to move away from the typical pink/white/pastels that I'm accustomed to.

Has anyone been to or thrown a shower with this type of theme?  I was thinking of plants in teacup pots, teacups w/ flowers in the middle of platters, etc.

Re: Teacup Baby Shower

  • the main thing that comes to mind is an afternoon tea/British theme, is that sort of what you're going for?
  • I would find teapots and teacups to create simple flower arrangements.

Here are some quick examples I found:

    Blue and White teapot

Mother's day tea party (some cute ideas...)

    Some other cute ideas

I through an afternoon tea bridal shower, but never a tea themed baby shower. For some reason, I also think it would tie in beautifully with Beatrix Potter characters, just to make it a little more baby centered...

    Have fun with your shower!

  • I think the idea the PP came up with was great. Breatrix Potter is perfect.

I also just wanted to say, think I think you could still get away with doing things in a white/pink/pastel color theme. Burgundy is still on the same color end as those colors are, just a different shade.

  • I love the Beatrix Potter ideas.  I'm just curious, is the mom to be drinking caffeine?  Some pregnant ladies won't touch it or will have a very limited amount.  If she's one of like that a tea cup party in a coffee house may be odd.
  • I like the Beatrix Potter idea!  I'm not sure if she's drinking caffine or not, but she OK'ed the venue (it's central to all of our friends and to her, since we all seem to have spread out).  I'm planning to have some caffine-free options available for her and anyone else who may be sensitive.
