wedding cake

I know that our anniversaries are approaching.  Ours is tomorrow. We saved a piece of our wedding cake and froze it.  I took it out of the freezer today to start defrosting so we can eat it tomorrow.  I heard that it is disgusting, but still want to try it.

Anyone else doing this?

Re: wedding cake

  • We froze the entire top layer of our cake (it's like 8x8 or something) . Since we've moved twice, it's stayed in my parents chest freezer. Next weekend we're going to Buffalo for a mini reunion type thing for my dad's parents' 50th anniversary (theirs is the 12th, ours the 14th) so I think I'll probably bring the cake back to our house that Friday and keep it in the fridge until we get home Sunday. I hope it's not too bad cause that was really good cake. We also have a bottle of champagne that was left over from our toast that we're going to drink

  • We didn't save our top a layer but I kinda wish we did. I'm going to either order us a small cake or make something. It depends on how motivated I feel :) We also have a bottle of champagne and we'll use our toasting flutes.

  • we didn't save it either because our baker is giving us a cake as an anniversary gift.  My friends did the top layer and they said it wasn't that bad at all.
  • We saved ours and our anniversary is next week.  You're supposed to put it in the fridge a week beforehand though to defrost.  I'm sure that helps with the uck-factor.  Actually, most of my friends that got married last year saved their top layer and said it was very good!

Like lex, we also have some champagne from the wedding to pop.  Our reception site packed us some food and a bottle of champagne to take on our honeymoon, but we decided to keep the champagne for our one year.  Excited to finally have it!

  • Ours is today, and we just got back from Mexico this afternoon.  I picked up a red velvet cupcake from the bakery, which is what our top tier was made of.  We didn't save our top tier because we didn't get to eat any of our cake at the wedding and it was really yummy, so we ate the top tier the day after!
  • We did cupcakes for our wedding and had a small cake for the top tier to cut. I hadn't planned on saving it, since we were going to be cutting into it ourselves, but apparently my MIL saved it for us anyway. :-) My DH just brought it from their house today and our anniversary is tomorrow. Uh-ohs for us if it needs to be thawed for a week. :-)

  • We didn't save any of our cake - that was just one tradition I wasn't interested in. DH also isn't a very big  cake fan so he wouldn't have eaten it with me! I'll probably just make some kind of yummy treat. On the plus side we have wine leftover that the in-laws had made for our grooms supper so we will have that to celebrate with!
  • We saved our top tier!  We can't wait to try it... I hope  it is yummy!

  • We saved our top tier and 2 of our wedding chocolates to have! Our anniversary is next week (the 14th) and we are heading out of town for our anniversary trip back to Mackinac Island that day, so we will be enjoying our cake and some champagne on Saturday evening! I can't wait for next weekend!! We are going to have a wonderful meal at Arturo's (my fave restaurant...very fancy-schmancy) on Friday evening and then the rest of the weekend will be full of wedding video watching and getting ready for our trip! DH has the Monday and Tuesday off for the trip, so it's going to be a lovely long weekend for him!

Louie - thanks for the info re: taking the cake out a week before! I was thinking about that and wondering which day this week would be best, so I am going to do that tonight!!! YOU ROCK!

  • UPDATE-- I took it out of the freezer yesterday and put it in the fridge.  We just ate it and it was just as yummy as it was a year ago!  So..we only defrosted for 24 hours in the fridge and it was just fine.

  • We have a chunk of ours in the freezer, but we also get a free 6" anniversary cake decorated like our cake from our bakery.  We are going to do a side by side comparison!
