My baby is off to Kindergarten on the 29th of this month!

How the heck did my baby get to be 5!! Seriously. He goes to school on his actual 5th birthday, the 29th! Any words of advice before he goes. I am sure I am going to be a mess :(

Re: My baby is off to Kindergarten on the 29th of this month!

  • Congrats to mom and Big Boy P!

My advice, leave how to make crap with macaroni.  It will make you a hit with all the 5 year olds.

  • Oh actually I do have some useful advice!  In kindergarten, they come home every day with a different piece of "art" they created.  Of course you are going to want to keep some, but some are going to be just god awful.  Suggest Big Boy P send that in the mail to Grandma. Grandma will feel special getting something from grandson, Grandson will feel cool mailing stuff, and you don't have to put the crap on your fridge :)

Or you could start a scrapbook and keep it all.
  • I had a friend whose mom didn't wake them up. After missing the first three days of kindergarten the school called. She said he was so cute sleeping that she couldn't wake him. So just make sure you wake him up and send him off with big hugs.

Wow, five. Does it shock you to see him so big? I can't even imagine mine three years down the road even though I know it's going to happen.

  • TotZiens-I thi k that is the best piece of advice I have ever heard. If we ever have a kid I am definitely using it.
  • Oh wow. 5? Time is flying.

Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
  • This is the advice that I've heard:  Try not to let your own emotions come through as children will respond to them.  If you are crying, it may make your own child think that something is to be feared and that will make it harder on them.  If you fake that it's the best thing ever, your child will be more likley to go in and be a bit less scared.  Even if your kid seems to be very fearful and is bawling, don't stick around too long - it'll be better for him and the school if you make a break.  My brother cried for two weeks straight and then came to love kindergarten.  I went running in and never looked back.  Both were tough on my mom.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • I love Totziens advice, I am so doing that. I have a years worth of craft stuff from preschool in his room already haha I think I will be alright when he gets on the bus, I might cry afterwards though :( Now I just have to figure out what to do with DD who is 2 and attached at the hip to her brother. Going to have to get creative, I forsee lots of library trips in our future!

  • Oh and I cannot believe he is so big either! It just goes by so quickly. He was a terrible baby, never slept, had colic, we spent a lot of time watching Conan, Letterman and Leno way back when. Now he talks back to me, can make a sandwich, dress himself and take the dog for a walk. He reads and writes too. Heaven help me!!
