Toddler and Baby in Same Room?

So DH is set on having both boys in the same room instead of moving Carson to his own room.  Have any of you tried this?  Does having a small infant in a room with a great sleeping 2 year old cause problems?  We'll keep the baby in our room in a basinette for the first 6 weeks or so but after that I'm terrified the baby crying will wake Carson and disrupt his sleeping. I know many people who have roomed two kids together before so it must work somehow right?  Anyone with any experience they want to share?  TIA!

Re: Toddler and Baby in Same Room?

  • I think a lot of people do it with a lot of success. We couldn't, but I think that has more to do with my girls' personalities. Ana likes it cool. Katen likes it warm. Katen likes it light. Ana likes it dark. When we moved into a rental townhome for a few mos before our house was done, the girls' rooms were right next to each other and the walls were thin. Every two hours (Ana is a horrible sleeper) I had to jump to quiet Ana. Otherwise she'd have Katen awake and crying. I can see having some success with a loud air purifier or something to damper the noise though. Boys might be a little more laid back about noises overnight.

  • I am in the same predicament.  We only have 2 bedrooms, so we will be keeping the baby in our room (in the PNP) for as long as we can, then move them to the same room.  I am nervous!!!  Esp, because we have a poor sleeper- so I guess it might not be that different!  I miss sleep!

  • All three boys share a room and it never effected the older one(s) when we put the little one in. We also didn't move the boys tell they were older...Gavin 9 months and parker 1. We love having them share I think it keeps them close.

  • Good to know there have been some positive experiences.  It makes me feel a little better as we near our due date.  Thanks ladies!
