What is your favorite part about being a teacher?
I am a total nerd, but I get so excited about science. There are so many things that when explained correctly just make sense in an almost beautiful manner and I love explaining these things to the kids. I also love that we get to do so much. There are activities and experiments that I get genuinely excited to do with my students. I honestly thought about not going back to work after having a baby but I can't imagine not being a classroom. I love what I do.
What is your least favorite part about being a teacher?
I say all the time that my job would be great if it wasn't for the parents. Sometimes the parents don't let me do what I need to do, meaning they interfere too much. Other times parents are completely absent from their kids lives (even if the kid lives with them). I also don't like how some parents think they can talk down to me. The lack of parental care breaks my heart sometimes. Sometimes I get irritated with some of the attention seeking kids in my class, but then I have to remember that chances are they get NO attention at home.
If you could have a pet besides a dog or cat, what would it be?
Probably a snake. I had hamsters growing up all the time and will probably get one for my kids, but for myself I would get a snake.
How did you meet your husband?
We met down in the town we went to college in, but after we both had graduated. We were both down there for different things not even related to the school, so it was a strange coincidence. I did not like him at first, he was not my type, but he won me over!
What's your favourite thing about him?
He puts up with me and nothing bothers him. Things that would irritate me to no end don't bother him so together we are a nice compromise. He is also great to snuggle with!What's your favorite movie?

What's the best book you've read this year?
I really enjoyed The Poisoner's Handbook. Its nonfiction about the use of poison and the development of the NY medical examiner's office in the first part of the 20th century.
Are you scared of anything like bugs, spiders, snakes?
Just things that could be potentially venomous. Luckily venomous bugs and spiders are not common around here.
How many children do you want to have?
We want two kids. We think that makes the most sense for the lifestyle we have and want in the future.
What made you want to teach forensics?
I went to a few workshops that integrated it into science and I started to use it in physics and physical science. I actually taught a few workshops on it before I got my own course. Our school schedule changed and opened up a spot for an elective so I got to teach forensics. Now the demand is so great I have two sections next year.

I like beans. My favorite kind are black beans.
Favorite color?
Purple.
Best vacation you ever went on?
We went on a lot of family vacations to the east coast when I was younger. The one we took when I was 14 was probably my favorite because we got to go lobstering on my cousin's boyfriend's lobster boat. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
Where would your dream (money no object) vacation be?
I would LOVE to take an African safari. Second to that would be a vacation all over Europe.Do you shower at night or in the morning?
If I work out after work (which I usually do) I shower at night after that. On weekends and during the summer its usually in the morning.

Usually flats.
