*Smiles511* RE: I-spy quilt

I saw a picture of your I-spy quilt in this thread (http://tinyurl.com/3hp37yt
) and I got very excited.  I'm in the process of making the same one!!  Check it out here: http://travelingpugs.blogspot.com/2011/08/i-spy-with-my-litte-eye.html

Yours looks awesome

Re: *Smiles511* RE: I-spy quilt

  • Yours is great!!!  I love how you have background fabrics lined up diagonally!!!  That is a neat effect!

What color did you chose for the border and backing??

I can't wait to see the finished project!  I stitched in the ditch - I questioned doing some freehand but ... as I can't doodle well with pen(cil), I didn't want to ruin this gift!

I can't get over that you bought 100 I spy squares online!  I wish I had thought to google i spy squares for sale... I went to many different fabric stores and had a blast buying!!! (I was thankful for stores that allowed me to buy 1/4 yard and not 1/2 yards!)

  • thanks. I'm doing some bright colored floral print on the back and red binding.  I decided not to do an additional border.

I agree, buying the fabric for the squares was a lot of fun!!!  I got about half of mine from the fabric stores and it got to be expensive - i'm sure you spent a pretty penney on yours!  Fortunately for me, my Joann Fabrics allows a minimum of 1/8 yard!!!!

can you post more pix of you quilt??

I feel bad but I don't know what stitched in the ditch means, lol.

  • Don't feel bad - stitch in the ditch refers to stitching a 1/4 from the seam - so each square was outlined ... no fancy quilting...

That image is the whole quilt - mine is a lap blanket - so my cousin could have it on his lap in the car ... I would make the squares bigger next time ... I can post more pics - is there something in particular you would like to see?

  • ohhh ok, I knw whaat you mean now.  I'm not good at sewing straight lines, so I don't know that I would "stitch in the ditch", but I do love the way it looks!  I saw a differnt i-spy quilt done that way and I saved it to my "favorites" but it makes me nervous.

I'd love to see a closer-up image of your fabrics (binding, 2x2 squares, backing, etc).

I love that you did black strips!

have you considered making another one?  I imagine you have tons of fabric left over that would allow you to make another.  I love mine, so far, but I don't know if I would take the time to make another one.  Quilting is so teridous and time consuming.
