Washing Clothes

Ok, I have always just done the following

* Seperated Colors

*Through them in the washer

*Through them in the dryer

*Fold and put away

The problem is...I would like to be more cautious of drying them. I never know what to dry, and what not to dry. My husbands shirts get short more so than mine, and its such a waste of money when I could prevent them from getting short and get a longer wear out of them. Any basic advice, haha.

Re: Washing Clothes

  • Read the care instructions on the tag.

    I wash all clothes in cold water. It's saves the hassle of sorting and it makes the clothes last longer. Plus, it's more eco-friendly. I don't know this for a fact, but I believe that washing clothes in cool water will help prevent shrinkage.

  • My rule of thumb for drying is if it is knit or if it feels silky/satiny or somehow slinky, then air dry (rayon, spandex, those really smooth feeling undergarments, nylon). Or if you must dry, dry on low/peramanent press. Sure, some of them could be dried fine, but they dry so quick that there's almost no point in doing it.

    Don't overdry your regular clothes. It's probably what's shrinking his shirts. Set your sensor to less dry or reduce the time amount of time you set the dryer on.

    My rule of thumb is cold water except for towels and whites.  I know Tide makes detergent specially for cold water washing but I'm honestly not sure how much of a difference it makes.
    I also use a drying rack for most of my clothes (other than PJs, socks, undershirts and underpants) and for my husband's polos.

  • I use cold water and air dry most shirts, pants, jeans, etc. I dry undies, undershirts, etc. on low heat.

  • The only thing I dry is towel/sheets and underwear, EVERYTHING else gets put on a drying rack.  I can't afford to lose the clothes I have!!!

  • I wash everything the same. (Warm wash, cold rinse.) Then everything except underwear, socks and my work uniforms get hung up to dry. I fluff the clothes I am hanging to dry for 15 minutes with just air. No heat. This makes my clothes last longer and my shirts don't get too short.

    PS~ Towels and sheets get dried on hot. My swimsuits and sports bras get hung up also. The heat from the dryer ruins the spandex in them.
