Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

I'm not 100% sure who this is. I was going to assume it was Jodi because I know she was wanting to change her name, but guess not. Hmm...someone PM me.
Does TN still have the 3-day wait period? Do you think that's part of the reason?

Nope.
Also, if you don't want to create another email address & you have a gmail account with a "." in it, just move the period to anywhere else & it'll still work with your gmail.
Ex: firstname.lastnight at gmail
use firstnam.elastname at gmail

Huh. I knew gmail worked like that, but never thought to use it for a new Nest name. That's useful!

BTW, they just hired a new person within the last week to handle nest issues. Are you still hoping to keep your other account? I think the issue is the punctuation in it. Seems like anyone with punctuation in their username is screwed.
