ER visits are covered 100%, right?

Even on Standard? I got a bill for an ER visit related to the pregnancy and I was caught off guard. I've been to the ER multiple times and have never paid a dime, so I'm confused.

Re: ER visits are covered 100%, right?

  • From my understanding yes, but I'm on Prime.  I did get a bill from my ER visit a few months ago.  It had the cost of what they charged Tricare, and then it said amount owed $0.00.  But when I first looked at it, I thought they were charging me.  That's what I get for not reading it properly and going straight to the numbers.

Maybe they put a code in wrong?  Call Tricare in the morning.

  • I went to the ER earlier this year and had a small fee... We have Prime as well, but I went to the closest hospital and it wasnt on base. From what I was told its free if you go to a military hospital. But I didnt ask a whole lot of questions.

  • We are on prime and when our dog bit our daughter, we had an ambulance ride to the off base ER, sedatives, stitches and multiple follow up trips and didn't pay a dime. You may want to call tricare and have them explain the bill to you.

  • Read the bill carefully, they can be confusing.  Even though mine was covered 100% it looked at first like I owed money.  And then I get a tricare count about how much I've spent toward my deductible when I haven't spent anything (and shouldn't since I'm prime).  I can be really confusing, and I'm thinking hospitals don't mind if you're confused and end up paying money you don'towe.

  • According to tricares website

    http://www.humana-military.com/south/bene/tools-resources/handbooks/cost-summary/std-and-extra-costs.asp

When you are on Standard and you go to the E.R. you are responsible for 20% after the annual deductible is met.

This means they prob. did some type of testing or evual that was not related to your pregnancy, so now you have a bill.

A lot of people forget that when they switch to Standard for a pregnancy that pregnancy is only covered 100% anything that is not related to the pregnancy is cost shared and you (general) are responsible for paying that portion.

  • I couldn't get the website to load earlier which is why I asked here, I will call in the morning. It's definitely a bill for a portion uncovered by Tricare.

MD, I had the same blood draws I've had every time I went to the ER so I can't imagine why it's all of a sudden not covered.

Call up the hosptial and asked what was not covered. It could have been something they were checking that wasnt related to your pregnancy, but they took from the same blood sample.

When H went to the E.R. once they actually tried to charge him for the puncture in his arm. I stopped that really quick.  Having worked in the E.R. alot of times they will try to cut corners and pull out more then 1 test from blood samples, when they do this they can claim it was not pregnancy related thus charging you.

I hope you get it worked out.
