We have lived in our apartment for 7 months. DH took possession in December before I came in January. After 6 months of trying, we finally got an electric bill in today's mail. It's for the period 29-Dec-10 to 20-Jan-11. One fricking month!!!!!!!! We have 6 months of electricity use still to be billed, so I called the company, and even though they have been talking to me for 6 months about mailing a bill, all of a sudden they cannot talk to me about the bill, or lack of current charges because I am not an authorized account holder.
I am so angry. If I were anywhere close to their offices I would be down there right now screaming my head off. This is completely insane. I have no idea how to budget for my electricity usage -- a month when no one was living here (DH was at his parents house mainly and then in US) is not a good judge for budgeting purposes for two people in the house.
Sorry just had to vent. I have been trying for 6 months to get a current bill. Arghhh!!!!
Re: Arghhh!!! My electric company.
That's odd. Our meter is read quarterly on the 7th and we typically have the bill by the 9th or the 10th.
Do you have a digital meter or one that needs to be read? Is it possible the meter reader never bothered to do your house and they can't bill you?
Since you have a bill for jan 20th, it should say on there what the meter reading was on that date. Just check to see what your meter says now and you can calculate from there. It should at least give you an idea, but it won;t include any taxes, and you just KNOW they are going to try to pop you late fees for the past two quarters.
How dumb of them, you would think they would want their money.
I don't know the electric rates in your area but electricity is really expensive here. I hope they sort it out soon!
DH called and got me added as an authorized account holder, and talked to a nice customer service rep who positively assured him that the reading on 7/20 has just been recorded and we should have a bill in 2 weeks. Of course, that's what they have been telling us all along. But he did find out that, in theory, we have as long to pay them as it took to get the bill -- I asked if that meant 6 months. I really do not want to have to fight to pay my electric bill every month. You'd think they'd want people who are anxious to pay the bills -- would welcome with with open arms and make it easy to pay.
I really don't know what my rates are. The bill covered the period when the house was for all intents and purposes, empty, so I have a base rate for running the fridge and the clock on the microwave. I have no idea how much we spent with all our electronics, tvs, a/c, and the dryer running and drawing the power. I am prepared for the bill to be in the $2,000-3,000 range.
Well, you can do the meter reading math I mentioned above and your bill should have the kWh rate on it (mine is .1941 w/o GST and .2135 w/GST) and just do the math.
FWIW, our bills are quarterly because I am too cheap to pay extra for monthly.
