Where do you think they are today? (Famous couples from movies)

I was watching Dirty Dancing yesterday and it got me thinking about my favorite romantic movies that I used to watch a lot when I was growing up. Do you think your favorite couples would still be together today or do you think they would have broken up?

For example, Dirty Dancing? Pretty Women? Father of the Bride? The Princess Bride?

I know this is a silly post but at the end of of a romantic movie, I always wonder if the couple is going to stay together.

  • Dirty Dancing - Unhappily married. I think they stuck it out and stayed together because they were all about overcoming the social stigma, but there really wasn't that much in common to keep them happy long-term. But a combination of stubbornness and social pressure (ironically) kept them from getting a divorce.

Pretty Woman - They stayed together. She makes a great trophy wife and arm candy and doesn't get in the way (too much) of his successful career. She's congenial and her background gives here experience chatting up strangers, so she's actually uniquely qualified to be an executive's wife.

Father of the Bride - They probably just had kids and live in the suburbs. They have their rocky patches, but they get through them. Nothing terribly dramatic.

The Princess Bride - They lived happily ever after. Because it's a fairy tale, and that's what you do in fairy tales!

I never thought of it before, but I agree with GilliC.  I've never seen the other two movies.

  • Dirty Dancing - Never married. I think it's because the class difference was just too much, plus the age. Once he realized she couldn't talk about anything more than what happened at school he was done with her. And she was done with him, after giving her virginity to an older man she had the confidence to flirt with all the popular boys at school. She went on to become Ivy school educated and she thought fondly of their time together. He went on to have a hip replacement twenty years later, too much grinding and thrusting.

Ditto GilliC on Pretty Woman. Though Dicky Gere's character was intensely jealous and fell into a deep depression always comparing himself to her other 'lovers'. He hid his jealously and pain through booze, Paxil and a therapist. She was oblivious to it all and shopped his wealth at the mall.

Totally agree! I never thought they'd make it past the summer (Dirty Dancing).

  • How about TV shows like Friends? Do you think Ross and Rachel are still together?

Ross and Rachel are probably still together. Didn't they move to France in the last episode? The thing that really bothered me about Ross and Rachel is WHY DO THEY NEVER TAKE CARE OF THEIR KID? They always make comments about the nanny and its like "Seriously? You are hanging out with your friends." I'd like to think that Pacey and Joey from Dawsons are still together. I think they'd be too career focused and introspective to want children, but probably vacation abroad a lot.
  • I love Joey and Pacey. together. I think they would be living like in France. He would have his own restaurant and she would be like a blogger.
