"I have never been called for Jury Duty!" *face plant*

On Friday I picked up the mail and I see this Court Summons. All I can think is crap, what have I done. I know Mary had Jury Duty recently, I may be asking you a few questions in the next few weeks.

  • I had federal jury duty. I hope you don't have that. It sucked. Big time. You are on call for a month and have to call once a week (though sometimes more) to see I you have to report the following day. Lame.
  • No it's for Harford County.

    Okay that's the worst.

  • I had jury duty a few months ago. It was really fine. I sat in a room and watched movies and read.

Ditto!  I basically got paid to read my book for half a day.

Just remember to make sure you remember to bring something to do!  In Harford County you can't have your phone with you, so there were a lot of people just sitting there without a book or magazine.

I saw they paid you $20! LOL!

Oh I'll definitely have a book with me.

  • You never know, you might get lucky.  I called the night before like you're supposed to (back in February) and they said no one had to report for the case and that our duty was fulfilled.

  • Like SweetCFly I too had jury duty back in May(ish) and I called the night before I was supposed to report. The message said something like "Anyone to report for jury duty tomorrow or Friday are excused. Your duty has been fulfilled and you will not be called to report again for 12 months."
  • I'm the nerd who is DYING to be called and it still hasn't happened yet!!!

I've had 2 aquaintances serve on super high profile federal grand juries in DC (of course its never been confirmed b/c its confidential) but I AM SO JEALOUS

  • In June I was called for Federal Jury duty. I had to fill out a 101 question survey and while I REALLY WANT to do jury duty, because I bf I was hoping to get out of it. When I called inquiring about accomadations they make for nursing/Bfing/pumping mothers, they said they couldn't find me a quiet, lockable room that was not a bathroom that I could pump in Tongue Tied. Really? For a Federal court case? Apparently, a plea deal was reached (or is it a plea bargain?), so I did not have to go.

  • DH served on a super boring fed. trial 2 years ago. He had to go to downtown Baltimore for it for a week. It was an employment case and super dull.

When I lived in NYC I got called up and there you can "postpone" when you serve, basically once you get the mailing that you are called in, you can reply back that that date doesn't work for you and then you can select a different date.  I chose the Monday or Tuesday the week of Thanksgiving, figuring that not a lot of new trials would be starting up.  I was there for 2 half days and then they said not to come back on Wednesday and got my credit for 2 years (in NYC 1 day served = you not being called for another year.)

I was called for AA County about a year ago - at the absolute worst time of the year at work.  I ended up not having to go until the second day and after spending the morning watching the Today Show, I was dismissed.  I would have been back to work by lunchtime, except the trolley I rode downtown (parked at Navy Stadium) was in an accident and I was trapped inside until the police showed.  Even though I was dismissed the second day, I had to continue calling back or checking online the rest of  the week until my number was no longer needed.
