I have an interview scheduled and just found out I have to be in court for my current job at the same time as the interview. It is still a week away. Is it ok to reschedule the interview based on a conflict w/ my current job?
Re: Is it bad to reschedule?
Is there any way that another person could go for you to court? (Don't know if that's a possibility).
I would say it is bad to reschedule. It might hurt their opinion of you and it might be inconvient for them (maybe their schedule has few openings). But if it's what you have to do, explain to them that a semi-last minute court appearance has come up that you must attend and see if they are open to rescheduling.
I think it is fine considering it is still a week away. I wouldn't tell them that you have a court appearance though. Just say that you have a work obligation that isn't flexible.
EDIT - Ha, I didn't realize you were an attorney.

I did call, and unfortunately they put me through to someone other than the person who scheduled the interview. The receptionist said his/her name VERY quickly and transferred before I could ask her to repeat it, so I don't even know who it was I left a message for (didn't say their name on the voicemail). You are right I am an attorney so I think they will understand, I just hope the appropriate person got my message. *Sigh* I hate the interview game.
this- especially if you are interviewing for something similar. Im sure they will understand and its plenty of advanced notice. Hope your VM got to the right person
With it being a week away, I think it's perfectly fine. Most companies/firms understand that you have a current job and conflicts come up. I'd contact them ASAP and see if you could make it for the day before or after.
