Dumb pregnancy question...........

Does your mouth produce more bacteria during pregnancy or is it dryer than normal? My mouth has been DISGUSTING lately, specially later on in the day.

Probably not....but thought I'd ask :)

Re: Dumb pregnancy question...........

  • I noticed early on that I had a horrible taste in my mouth right after I'd eat.  I'm normally a chronic gum chewer, but the thought of gum made me want to barf, so I was brushing my teeth 5-6 times a day.  It wasn't drier than normal, it just tasted bad!  Luckily, that has gone away, as has my objection to gum.  Ah, fresh breath!
  • I felt like I had a nasty mouth when I was in my first trimester. With Owen it tasted like metal and was sooo bizarre. For Amelie, it was just gross. I would say it's a pregnancy thing.

I also had a metallic taste in my mouth... but I do recommend that you continue your cleaning appts at the dentist every 6 months. Pregnancy causes hormonal changes that increase your risk of developing gum disease, which in turn, can affect the health of your developing baby :)
