furniture question

DH and I are upgrading to a king size bed for Christmas this year. We currently have a queen and that will be going into the guest room. I would like to keep our dresser and other furniture in the room but all of the furniture is dark brown and it's making the room look really small. Also our decor is more traditional and I think we want to change it to a contemporary/modern look.

I was thinking about either getting a platform bed with a wooden or upholstered headboard or a metal frame bed. Which do think would look best? For reference this is what I have been looking at.

Re: furniture question

  • I like the first one best, and I think it would go well with a contemporary look.
  • I like the first one too, although what colors are you using in your room that could make a difference?

  • The first bed is contemporary - the second bed is not.

    I LOVE the first bed.

  • Also, as far as an upholstered headboard - it is SO EASY to make your own upholstered headboard - easy, easy, easy.  There are tons of tutorials online and it is dirt cheap (assuming you don't fall in love with fabric that costs $100 a yard or something like that).  We paid an arm and a leg for our upholstered headboard from Ethan Allen - I really wish we would have researched it a bit and have made our own (although I love the one that we have).

We were thinking either one of these (both are from West Elm)

I have been thinking about that too. Actually, I just googled some instructions.

  • Oh, I love both of those beds from West Elm.

I REALLY love the bedding of that second bed.  God, I love house stuff.

  • LOVE the second bedding you posted!!!
  • I love the bedding in the second picture.  I also like the wall color.
  • I love everything in the 4th picture.

Same here.  I'd buy everything from that! :)

The first bed is very pretty if you're wanting to go toward a more contemporary look--love it!
