Moms of boys...help?

If anyone has advice for me I would be VERY grateful.

G is currently in a body exploration stage.  Totally normal and, I understand, an early pre-cursor to potty training.  However, he keeps playing in his diaper, reaching his hand in the leg holes, and ends up peeing outside (on the floor, down his leg, etc.).  We are now on outfit number 3 today and he just wet this one...argh!

I can't put pants on him in this heat and I re-direct him as much as possible but, can't catch him at it every single time.  I am going online today to order a potty seat to see if it sparks any interest.

Any suggestions???

Signed, a Mama who is up to her ears in pee-pee laundry

Re: Moms of boys...help?

  • I have the same problem but with...........poopCrying A took of his shorts and diaper and handed them to me while I was cooking dinner. He does the same while he should be falling asleep for naps.

I dont have much advice and Im sorry. Most other moms I have talked to say its a stage.

We have a potty seat (since Feb) he is not interested thus far, but I will be trying at the end of the month!

    {{HUGS}} and good luck!

ETA: What about a pull up rather then a diaper? or those huggies diapers that are like underwear (similiar to pull up but they are calling them diapers>>>

  • Thank so much. It's always good to know you aren't the only one dealing with something - even when it is completely normal - because, in this case, NO ONE talks about it!  And, G has done the poop thing a few times as well.

I hesitate to go away from diapers at all because I really do not think he's anywhere near ready to potty train, likely just figuring out the sensation of urinating and being wet.  I know we'll get through this like everyone else does but, really, puddles on the floor are just no fun.

  • HUggies just came out with diapers that are just like swim diapers in the way the go on.  Starting in size 3.  I forget the name exactly but they are not training pants, but just a new design.

We have discovered ourselves but only when naked.  Though when naked we like to walk into the bathroom (at least he has right room) and pee on floor standing.

Ha!  Yes, this often happens in our house at bathtime.

Thanks for the diaper suggestions but, since he is going in through the leg holes I don't think that will solve the problem.

    Duct tape, maybe???  KIDDING!

  • I had to laugh a little when I read you post.  Gotta say the going through the leg hole is a new one I haven't heard before - but kind of smart on G's part.  LOL

While A never quite did this I do have friends that went through this.  Like pp said, it's a phase.  A messy one, but nonetheless a phase.  Doesn't hurt to get a potty seat & see if he has any interest.  What about going back to onesies so he has a harder time getting into the diaper?  or is he getting around the onesie too?

My current battle with A is he's always grabbing at himself (outside the pants). It got to be so often that I even bought him different underwear on the chance that the briefs were too 'restricting' on him and that's why he kept grabbing himself.  But nope....still grabbing.  I guess boys will just be boys.

  • No real advice but maybe try a few days with the diaper on backwards. I have seen people do this to stop the taking off of the diapers. I'm not sure if the leg's would be tighter and then he couldn't get through them?? Good luck!

Oh, he has a onesie on all of the time and it's no deterrant.  We call him mini-Houdini for a number of reasons, this being one. *sigh*
