rational or no?

i'm sitting by DH in a freezing cold high school gym while we're waiting for DD's game to begin.  i'm rubbing my arms and say, "man, i'm freeezing!!!" in hopes that maybe he'll throw his big warm arm around me.

he responds with, "it feels GOOD to me!"

background info: i was tired, had accidentally left my breakfast on the kitchen counter when we walked out the door... so i was also hungry.  and the game was like 40 minutes away from our house

oh my gosh, i was so mad.  i wanted to spit on him.  if he told me he was in some way uncomfortable, i would'nt fire back with how fabulously wonderful i felt.

"my head hurts." oh, well my head feels GREAT!

i can laugh about it now, but man, i was so mad at him when he said that.

Re: rational or no?

  • I'd be mad because I am irrational like that, but I can see you telling me that I should have just said "hey, put your arm around me, I am cold" if I had posted a similar rant.

LOL at oh well, my head feels great.

  • I agree, it's irrational, but that doesn't mean you weren't justified in being irritated. I am irrationally irritated all the time!

I am sure he thought you were just making an observation.

  • Hungry + Uncomfortable is never a good combo.

I know I've been hungry/tired/grumpy and looked at my DH like he had three heads because the sound of him chewing gum, or something equally trivial, had me irrationally irritated!

  • Rational? No.

Perfectly normal feelings that don't need to be justified or rationalized in any way?  Yes.  Feelings/Emotions don't have to be rational.

I had to read your post twice because I automatically thought he DID put his big warm arms around you and THAT is why he said, "Feels goooooooood to me."  Now that would have been the optimal way to close out that interaction.

Idea  that's what DH said when i (after eating, when i could laugh about it) shared this information with him.

My thoughts exactly! Aren't we all perfectly irrational from time to time?  Wink
