Delayed AWs :) (long w/ lots of PIPs)

I hope everyone's been having a great summer! I've been lurking from my phone and it's too much of a pain to post from there, but I love seeing everyone's AWs.

I made these for the niece a while ago but never aw'd them b/c I was waiting for a picture of her IN them.  :)  (I will dd her pics later since she's not my kid)

(edited to take out niece's pics)

I also made the reversible ruffle bonnet that someone linked during the kid's clothes week.

& matching dress. It is reversible w/ the blue flowers on the inside.

ANNND... totally not CR, but I have a new kitchen and I. LOVE. IT.

minor changes we did to make it 'liveable' (2006-2011) (still Ick!)

sorry for the weird lighting. The cabinets are natural maple & look more like pic #2.

We did the demo ourselves to save some money & it was ridiculously cathartic. I really HATED the old kitchen. It was awesome to take a sledge hammer and beat the crap out of the 30 year old P.O.S. cabinets. Cool

I am never DIY'ing again though. Tearing out the tile floor almost ended my marriage.   I hope to live here for 5-10 more years & my next house will NOT be a fixer.

Since our kitchen has been finished, we've been eating at home more often (b/c I can cook without feeling dirty..) and I've lost 15lbs! Party!!!

  • Everything looks fantastic!

Renovations are incredibly trying on any relationship. DH doesn't seem to comprehend that I am not as strong as a man. He'll get frustrated about something and will go off.  He always says he's not yelling at me, but when I'm the only other person there, it's hard not to take offense.  We survived installing a garage door for our two-car garage while I was 5 months pregnant this summer.

  • That's a heck of an aw, there! Love everything! The little bonnet and dresses are adorable (I especially love the tiny red and blue flower print) and I really like what you've done with your kitchen!

    TFS!

    Nice work!  Love the fabrics!

The kitchen is incredible!  Well done!!  Btw, what does the floor look like now?  The pics you posted don't show it...is it tile??

LOL! You totally busted me! The floor is still under construction actually b/c we can't agree on it. (Huh? I never thought DH would actually CARE what floor I picked.. but apparently he does.. so..)

I originally wanted a large rectangular black slate tile (12x24) like this but w/ dark grout.

But taking out the old tile made me 2nd guess putting down new tile.. in case we ever want to change it again..

Then I was thinking a nice wide plank, hand scrapped hardwood floor would look nice, but I worry about pet accidents ruining them.  Now we're thinking about laminate (I know all the CONS regarding resale/quality) b/c they could potentially look better longer with 2 dogs & a geriatric cat and even if they do get damaged, it's not as much money down the drain.

So basically I have a cement slab in the kitchen and I actually kind of like it functionally even though it doesn't look great.  I've  looked into cement stain/epoxy but I wanted to take out the carpet in the adjoining dining/living room b/c it's all open and I dont want concrete in those rooms. Embarrassed

  • Everything looks great and woohoo on losing weight!

  • Ahhh....sorry...didn't mean to pry or bring up ill feelings!

There are fake woods that are plastic but are pretty realistic - that might be a compromise... wood look...without the fear of animal/kitchen accident permanency.

Keep us posted if you find a solution!  THe rest of the kitchen looks great!

I've spent probably 5+ hrs at floor & decor talking to different ppl about hardwood/laminate/tile etc..  I found something I really liked online, but the shipping makes it too expensive. blah.

  • There tend to be good Labor Day sales...keep watching!!!
