Possibly stupid cooking question: baked ziti
I love to cook and do it quite often. I'm also pretty good at it. BUT I never really cook ahead/freeze. So many ppl do and it seems to make life easier so I am giving it a go, but find I'm easily confused... LOL
I know baked ziti is a good freeze ahead dinner BUT
Do I cook it and then freeze it, or prep the whole thing (obvioulsy the pasta will be cooked) and then freeze?
And if I don't want to freeze but make it in the morning to have later that night, can I prep it and keep it in the fridge all day, then bake at night? I feel like this shold work easily but who knows... New territory!
Re: Possibly stupid cooking question: baked ziti
Prep and then freeze, or prep and refrigerate in the morning and then bake.
At least, that's what I do with lasagna. I never make baked ziti but I assume it would be the same.

As for freezing it, I've done both. If I'm making it with the purpose of freezing, I'll freeze, thaw and then bake. But sometimes stuff happens during the week and I'm left with 1/2 a pan and will just toss it in the freezer.
For the second question, I would just mix it up, put it in the dish and then bake that evening. It should be fine.
Freeze it before you cook it. But then I always get confused on whether I defrost it, then bake it or bake it straight from frozen...
If you make it in the morning, you are fine to keep it in the fridge until it is ready to be baked that night.
So Tasty, So Yummy
Either will work. I usually prep and then don't bake, that way I'm not trying to cool down a hot pan of baked ziti before putting it in the freezer! I do the same thing with lasagna.
You can definitely make it in the morning and keep it in the fridge for baking that night, or even the next night.
You can do either, but sticking it in the fridge overnight will speed up the cooking time a little bit. If you put it in the oven frozen it will take about twice as long to bake.
I always worry that if it is in a glass dish, the dish will break. DH once took chicken out of the oven and went to rinse the dish right after removing the chicken and the whole thing shattered. Now I'm a little hesitant to put dishes in without letting them try to come to room temp.
You can do either. One will obviously take longer
.
You could put it in a cold oven and then preheat it. That will make it less of a shock.
