potty training poll

yes, work is slow today so i'm being a PW.

just curious....who is/has/will potty train their LO on the regular potty vs using a potty chair?

we're leaning towards using a regular potty and just teaching him to pee standing up on a stool over the potty.  not sure if this will work but that's our plan...for now.  haha.

Re: potty training poll

  • We bought a little potty, but Will hated it.  So we have 2 big toilet inserts he used.  Now he just holds himself up with his hands.  He can also stand over on a stool, but we all prefer the sitting on the toilet.  Bonus, if he's peeing, and needs to poop, he doesn't have to change positions.  It works well, as I usually take him in public, and women's rooms are cleaner.  Men's, not so much.  DH complains about men's RR are dirty, so he has DS stand on his leg, and pee in the urinals.

  • Katen trained with a potty chair because she needed the reminder to use it where she was playing.

Ana is fine with telling me when she has to go so she trained on a regular potty with a child seat on it.

    I'd do both.  :)

  • We are using both. N is most definitely not ready, so I'm not forcing her into it, but if she wants to sit on the potty, I let her choose which one.

  • We used both.  Maya had her own little potty in the downstairs bathroom and living room.  Probably sounds gross, but it was a good reminder when she was out playing.

We also had one of those rings that goes on the big potty upstairs.  She used both with ease, but I preferred the ring so I didn't have to dump and clean the little plastic potty.

  • We did both.  Our main play area is in the basement with no restroom so we used a potty chair.  For the powder room on the main floor we used a toilet insert.  Upstairs where we do bath and her bedroom is we used a regular toilet with no insert.  She easily interchanged between all three.  I'm not sure what I will do with Collin, but figure we'll probably use the same technique until he's ready to start standing up to go without making a mess.

  • We used both as well.  The portable potty is nice in the beginning because it can be wherever they are.

  • We're going to use whatever the sitter uses. Keep it consistent as to not confuse him.

  • She sits on the potty chair in our downstairs bathroom so she can go on her own. When she's upstairs, we're always with her, so she sits on the toilet, no insert. And if I were you, I would teach him to pee sitting down. Little boys have terrible aim! Lol!
