hello, I am right now living in Boston MA but we might be moving to Westlake Texas for my DH's job. I have a 6 month old. I need advice, how is it living there? Can you rent house? Is the standard of living high?
My DH makes in the $70 000 per year and I stay home, would that be enough?
Any advice would be great.
thanks very much
Re: westlake
With All the Trimmings
Just do it!
Westlake is one of the richest cities in the state. For reference, people that have houses there are celebrities and professional athletes.
Westlake is WAY out of your price range. Most of Westlake is CEO's and the Jonas Brothers. The average income is $300,000 I believe. I work in the area and the houses are huge and expensive. There are places around here that you could afford but the area of Westlake/Southlake would be out of budget for you.
I echo Southlake and Grapevine... also if your open to a little farther away to the West there are some fantastic places in North Fort Worth or Haslet. The drive is a little farther, but is mostly rural highway and shouldn't take too long.
thanks very much for all your help. If we can rent that would be great. It would be for two to three years only. Commuting is fine, as long as it is not too long. How much is rent for a three bedroom, kid friendly? Yard will be great.
thanks again,

If you want a yard I would recommend renting a house. There are lots of areas to choose from you just need to decide what part of town you want to live in. Grapevine is centrally located and has some very nice areas. I'm not sure how much houses usually rent for in the area. My sister lives in North Ft Worth and the houses in her area rent for $1100 and up. My mom lives about 5 miles from her in an older part of North Ft Worth and the house next door to her is for rent and is only $900 but is smaller. It really depends on the area you want. I would do some reasearch on the areas you want to live in and pick the one that is best for your family.
Also they are doing a lot of construction in the area and 820, 183, 114 and 121 all have construction for the next 3-5 years.
I live in NW Fort Worth and it is very affordable. There is a town called Haslet I would recommend looking into. It is just across 35 from Westlake but is much more affordable and had good schools (if that is a factor.)
Houses in my area rent for around $1000/mo. for a newer 3 bed/2bath/2 car garage. Most have smaller yards but are decent. Traffic is bad in the mornings/evenings but that is the case with most areas in DFW, it isn't horrible and most places can be reached withing 30 minutes. 70K a year would be more than enough for you to live on if you lived in the Haslet/NW Fort Worth area as long as you aren't paying huge car payments or loan payments or something.
Hope this helps!
thanks for all the help. We will go there for a week and look around. I just wanted to start my research. Thanks very much again.
