Dead body found outside my building and other news

It is rumored that a dead homeless lady was found on the steps of my work building.  Good grief.  The police are out there, but I don't have the heart to look out my window too much because I am decidedly NOT interested in having a "Stand By Me" moment.

In other news, obviously not as serious as someone losing their life (again, good grief, that poor woman), but this article pisses me off because I travel up 395 every morning with DH and we are so very screwed:

My favorite quote that had me LOL-ing:

"Fairfax County officials are encouraging drivers to find new commutes, with the influx of 19,000 federal workers to Fort Belvoir and the Mark Center expected to create gridlock on Interstate 395 and other arterial roads."

Good grief.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

Re: Dead body found outside my building and other news

  • :I yikes! how creepy and what a weird start to the week.

and sorry about 395. i could not handle a commute that involved driving and miserable traffic!

  • I am astounded by BRAC and how poorly thought out it has been. Traffic is already miserable enough here.

  • Yikes.

Did she just die, or do they think foul play was involved?

And yeahhhhhhh, about that whole BRAC thing, i'm terrified.  There is a ton of stuff happening right where I work in North Bethesda (a huge housing development, and I think within the next year they're doing a 3.14 million square foot shopping center on Rocvkville Pike), and already at 3 pm on schooldays it's horrific, and a shitton of people haven't been moved to Bethesda Naval yet.

  • We live near King and 395 and DH works right by the BRAC as well as our DCP who is off Seminary....

This whole BRAC thing annoys me to no end. But they have added additional bus service and I read that BRAC employees can take the bus for free (funded by DOD).

  • Ohhhh! I saw all the cop cars right near there this morning and wondered if something was up.

  • I am so sorry for that poor woman.

Re. Commute, DH takes Columbia Pike and says it isn't bad.  He only goes as far as Crystal City but it will get you around Mark Center.  I think 395 is faster if things are moving, but it's a good alternate route.

  • First, I am so sorry that someone had to die, alone, out doors, in front of an office buidling. That is so sad.

Second, this whole BRAC thing - John and I were discussing yesterday -- correct me if I am wrong but good Lord, it's not like they couldn't have planned for this better! I mean, the whole BRAC initiative was years ago and as soon as they made a plan as to which sites were closing and which were going to take up the slack, they should have also started to fix the damned roads. The feds had money (well, perhaps not all) back then. this is just ridiculous, to eff the commuters now - not everyone is a fed trying to get to those sites. but you know we're all going to be paying for it somehow.

(This, coming from a Toll Road commuter, so you know I am effed until 2013 at least, and then for the rest of my life as we continue to pay and pay and pay for a road that was built 20 years ago.)

    "What is a week-end?"
  • If it's anything like the suicide by my building a few years ago, the body itself was probably removed hours ago even if the area is still swarming with cops.  The heat alone should move the clean-up along...

This was on TV this weekend, and I was tempted to watch it, until I realized my 21 month old was in the room - probably not appropriate for him!

I've work at the Mark Center for the last decade or so.  SO not looking forward to this.  To get people to take public trans, they are also not providing enough parking for all the people there, which is probably why they get to take the bus for free.  They've increased the daily parking in our lots to ridiculous amounts so people don't try to park there and take our spots.  I'm so not looking forward to the next couple of months while they figure everything out!

What happened outside your building? I missed that link.
